Product Description

From Publishers Weekly

"If piecing together a story out of history is like puzzling out the doings of nocturnal creatures by the tracks left to the morning, the civil war that founded Acadia is a few smudgy pawprints in melted snow," writes Silver in the author's note following his tale of Acadia, the fur-trading colony in 17th-century Nova Scotia. Drawing from vague shadows of history, Silver (The Red River Trilogy) recreates an era of deadly violence and lusty romance as Charles de La Tour and his bride Francoise squabble with Charles and Jeanne d'Aulnay over the governorship of Acadia. France's attempt to solve the probelm by drawing a line down Baye Francoise (now the Bay of Fundy) only made the battle more bitter. This is a fine novel filled with historical fact and detail but it is also proof that Silver is a master storyteller as well.

5.0 out of 5 stars My Acadian Roots, Nov 20 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Acadia (Mass Market Paperback)
I am a genealogist who has traced her Acadian Roots back for more then 300 years. This work of historical fiction is remarkably close to the facts. I have stumbled upon many of the names of the characters used in the book in my own research. The book is very well written. It is full of excitement and drama. It is as if the Author himself was there in the midst of the early Acadian's struggle to carve out a place for themselves in this new land of Acadie, in Eastern Canada. Thank you, Alfred Silver for doing such a fine job telling the Acadian's,(forefathers of the Cajuns), story.

What else can I say. Alfred Silver wrote "Acadia" like he was there. He placed the characters perfectly, and flaulessly.
