Platform for Display: PC Disc Verified Purchase
Acrobat X Pro is an incremental improvement over previous versions that have served me well for over 16-years. I find it particularly good for preparing and protecting documents for distribution and downloading from websites. The upgrade went in fine and has worked without a problem.

This new Adobe Acrobat X is terrible and annoying to use. A big disappointment. It's the "Vista" of Adobe.

When you launch Acrobat X there's always a start up screen that pops up in the middle of the screen and cannot be disabled, asking if you want to open a file, create a new file, etc., like the user is an idiot.

There are only 5 main menus on the top: File, Edit, View, Window, and Help. Acrobat 9 has 10 menu choices. Gone from the main menu on top are Document, Comments, Forms, Tools, Advanced, and Plug-Ins. They were all moved to the new right side panel you have to open up everytime you want to do something and takes up space and covers up the PDF.

The Find box is gone from the top. Now you have to hit "Ctrl F" and a small little box appears on the right of the screen to type in the text in. Everytime you want to search a document you have to go through the hassle of opening up the little box.

There is a fading toolbar window at the bottom of the screen instead of being on the top where it ought to be. When you open a PDF you have to scroll down to the bottom of the page and try to figure out where the hidden fading toolbar is, mouse over it, wait for it appear then press the Print or Save button. On the fading toolbar they have the page count and when scrolling through a PDF it dissapears and you can't tell what page you're on unless you mouse over the faded toolbar and then is disappears after a few seconds. Also in the faded toolbar is the zoom menu where you have to mouse over it to appear and select the page size you want and then it disappears.

When you have a PDF file open and want to save or re-save it, you have to actually select the PDF first before the file save dialog box opens. Why is it necessary to select a PDF you already have open?

Using Adobe Acrobat X drives me crazy. You can't focus on what you're doing. I reverted back to Adobe Acrobat Pro Extended 9.4.2.

I have been a user of Adobe products for 20 years. I have upgraded my Creative Suites from its origin to its current CS5 Design Premium. I have recently had trouble installing updates to Illustrator -- and after 6 hours with customer service and technical support was told to uninstall and reinstall, which I did and did NOT solve the problem. They have no answer. I was having the same problem with Acrobat 9 Pro and spent additional WASTED hours. Finally, I decided to upgrade to Acrobat X Pro. I purchased it from Amazon. I tried to install it on my laptop, put in the X serial number and copied the 9 serial number from my registration page at Adobe -- and it did not recognize my serial number as valid. So deleted the 9 serial number and typed it in exactly as it was on the Adobe registration page -- and still not a valid serial number! I finally called Adobe customer service, who could do nothing, and transferred me to technical support. After 45 minutes (!) on the phone, I was given a pin number which activated my Acrobat X Pro on my laptop. I told them that I did not want to keep calling to get a pin number for an installation on my desktop computer and for a new laptop I planned to buy shortly. They said they would look into solving the problem so that my own installation would automatically activate the program. I got a call back from technical support in India and was told that I could only install by calling technical support every time and get an activating pin number. This is TOTALLY INEXCUSABLE! Imagine your hard drive crashing and having to reinstall and spending waiting time, often over 20 minutes and then head time of around 10 minutes just to activate a program from a company whose products you have used for 20 years! The new Acrobat X Pro is NOT WORTH THE TROUBLE!

I bought and installed this program, Acrobat X Pro Upgrade, with NO problems. I upgraded from Acrobat 9 Pro FULL version on a Win7 Pro virtual machine running on my Apple iMac i7. You must first uninstall any previous version of Acrobat prior to installing ver X. I chose to upgrade to ver X obtain FULL compatibility with my Office 2010.

Unlike some of the other reviews on Amazon, I had ZERO problems with Acrobat X taking/accepting the Acrobat 9 Pro serial number (it even worked with my Acrobat 8 Pro S/N). I can't say why the others had problems, as I don't know all of the details involved with their installations.

I use Acrobat extensively every day for business. Therefore, before I took the plunge into their new GUI, and did some homework. All I can say at this time is that the new GUI/menus are a little clunky at first. It shouldn't take too long to acclimate yourself to the new design, as long as you are not completely brain dead. For my use, I think I will like the new menus better. They make a little more sense as you start using them. Buy this program with an open mind knowing that there may be a short acclimation curve and you probably won't be disappointed. I forgot to mention that the user can customize to toolbars at the top of the program with their favorite, most frequently used shortcuts. This is pretty handy, if you do not want to always use the new menus on the right side.

I saw some reviews/comments about the ver X running slower on their pc than previous versions of Acrobat. I can say with 100% certainty that it is in FACT running FASTER than ver 9 on my pc (opening PDF docs, editing, etc.). What will it do on your pc, I have no idea. It guess is depends on how well maintained your pc is and what programs you have installed.

This is all for now. Maybe I will post more a I use it more and possibly find bugs/issues.

I have used Acrobat for more than 12 years. This has to be the biggest disappointment. They have now hidden everything and changed the way you use acrobat. I find this very disconcerting. It doesnt add any value to productivity and requires too much customization. Almost every operation that i was previously used to, now require one or two extra clicks and needs more screen real estate. Stay away from this one. I am going back to 9.

I used to be on Acrobat Pro 8 and was running into troubles opening PDFs from my browser since it was such an old version, so I was so looking forward to the upgrade. However, I think I am going to have to uninstalll this software and go back. It is trash. I experience very sloooow opening of documents that are forms on browser-based applications. They are so slow, it it really a productivity issue. Secondly, I opened a document today and tried to save it and got a message that stated the "The Document Cannot be saved. A number is out of range." The Acrobat Forums had this same issue, but there wasn't a resolution. Also, whenever I try to print to an Adobe PDF vs. a printer, I get the Blue Screen of death and there is a compatibility problem between Acrobat X and Windows 7. Again, on the Acrobat Forum, there is no help for users to resolve this. Another issue I had was when I went to create a form. My old Acrobat 8 was great when I did an auto-detect of the form and picked up all the blanks and make them form elements. This version missed about 80% of the blanks fields and I had to manually set them...quite a productivity enhancer...not. The only thing I found that worked better was the converter from Acrobat to Word. That worked well. I am going to see if I can return this software as it is useless for my common everyday tasks like opening files from internet based apps, saving the PDF after opening it from an e-mail and printing to PDF. There may be some new features that are nice, but this software makes my life difficult for the most commonly used tasks, so it has to go. Amazon has been great to work with in the past, so I'm sure I'll be able to work a solution with them.
