Are you ready for an amazing new version of The Photoshop Book that breaks all the rules?

Scott Kelby, Editor and Publisher of Photoshop User magazine—and the best-selling Photoshop author in the world today—once again takes this book to a whole new level as he uncovers more of the latest, most important, and most useful new Adobe Photoshop CS5 techniques for digital photographers.

This major update to his award-winning, record-breaking book does something for digital photographers that’s never been done before—it cuts through the bull and shows you exactly “how to do it.” It’s not a bunch of theory; it doesn’t challenge you to come up with your own settings or figure it out on your own. Instead, Scott shows you step by step the exact techniques used by today’s cutting-edge digital photographers, and best of all, he shows you flat-out exactly which settings to use, when to use them, and why. That’s why the previous editions of this book are widely used as the official study guide in photography courses at colleges and universities around the world.

Learn how the pros do it
Each year, Scott trains thousands of professional photographers how to use Photoshop, and almost without exception they have the same questions, the same problems, and the same challenges—and that’s exactly what he covers in this book. You’ll learn:
  • The sharpening techniques the pros really use.
  • The pros’ tricks for fixing the most common digital photo problems fast!
  • The step-by-step setup for getting what comes out of your printer to match exactly what you see onscreen.
  • A whole chapter on how to process HDR (High Dynamic Range) images using CS5’s new Merge to HDR Pro.
  • How to master CS5’s new Content-Aware Fill.
  • How to color correct any photo without breaking a sweat.
  • How to process RAW images like a pro (plus how to take advantage of all the new Camera Raw features in CS5!).
  • How to use the included gray card to make color correction just a matter of three clicks.
  • How to show your work like a pro!
  • A host of shortcuts, workarounds, and slick “insider” tricks to send your productivity through the roof!
Plus, Scott includes a special bonus chapter with his own CS5 workflow, from start to finish, and each chapter ends with a Photoshop Killer Tips section, packed with time-saving, job-saving tips that make all the difference. If you’re a digital photographer, and if you’re ready to learn all the “tricks of the trade”—the same ones that today’s leading pros use to correct, edit, sharpen, retouch, and present their work—then you’re holding the book that will do just that.

5.0 out of 5 stars Buy the Book! Oct. 26 2010
By rappar TOP 500 REVIEWER
This book is terrific. Scott brings the skills he uses to describe how to get the most out of your camera to the software that will help with the pictures you take. It is easy to follow, makes sense and saves you time as he takes you through the various steps needed to improve the photo you took. I have purchased other books on CS5 but this was the best by far.

I first 'met' this series of books at the Photoshop CS2 edition, following the recommendation from a local photo store. Didn't regret it as Scott seems able to select and explain just the editing functions and techniques that a digital photographer really needs to have to hand. He tries to bring some levity to the explanation of the techniques but I must confess that his idea of humour doesn't quite match mine. :-)

Note, the book isn't an all encompassing manual on CS5 and not all of the necessary techniques covered in earlier books (for earlier versions of CS) are re-hashed in this particular edition. I certainly still keep my CS2 edition to hand. This may seem just like a ploy to get you buying a complete set of books but Scott makes the point that including everything previously covered would result in one VERY thick book.

I have just jumped back into photography and this book has really helped.Scott keeps things light and funny. This book is so easy to follow along.Everything from editing to print is covered.
Obviously there is so much more to photoshop cs5 but this is a great jumping off point.I believe that most of the tools that I would use as an amateur photographer were well covered.

5.0 out of 5 stars Scott's version the best Oct. 20 2010
Scott Kelby's distinct way of explaining techniques is simply the most easiest to understand. The tips and techniques are explained in a very organized manner that you can follow without getting nervous or intimidated. I will be looking for more of his books and plan to buy them.

This book is very nice for photographers who wish to post-process their photographs in a short period of time.
The book gives very good tricks and tips with step by step instructions along with figures.
It doesn't go in technical details but explains it what it is supposed to.

The bonus chapters and bonus videos on this book's website are also helpful.

It's a great buy.

3.0 out of 5 stars Too Similar to Elements..... May 4 2011
First off, I loved the Photoshop Elements books by Scott Kelby. However, there are a lot of similarities with this book and the Photoshop Elements books (actually some of the same images). He spends a lot of time with editing in RAW, very little in Photoshop. Very little instruction with regards to special effects and using the quick mask tool and layering. There's some basic filler....i.e. how to make your picture look like a watercolor painting (you can do this easily in $89 Elements). There's not a lot of "meat" in this book for the $600+ program it is supposed to cover (even briefly). Overall, I was disappointed. It seems as if he just used the same images and changed a few words.....
