I bought this book shortly after my husband and I received our daughter via domestic infant adoption. Wondering around the bookstore looking at books for adopted children, I spotted this one by Kevin Leman and picked it up. Part of his, "There's No On Like You" books, I soon read the entire book and had tears running down my face. A story about two brown bears adopting a baby panda bear who is now school aged and has to create a family tree. The panda is worried because he knows his family tree is different from other kids, he doesn't know where he came from and knows he looks different from his mama and papa. Mama Bear sits down with him and explains his adoption story: how a beautiful and young panda mama had a baby in her tummy that she knew she could not take of by herself. She looked and looked and found a couple who so wanted a baby to love and raise but couldn't have baby bears of their own. She chose mama and papa brown bear. Mama Bear tells her child that he is "the cub of her heart" and "you were born right here" while pointing to her chest. Told within the Christian perspective, it communicates how special birthparents are and how difficult a decision it is to make an adoption plan, how people of all different backgrounds, appearances and circumstances can be families and how love is the most important ingredient in any family. With sweet illustrations, I still cry when I read this story and love sharing it with my daughter.

Wish I had read it first before buying in for a gift July 15 2012

This was an adorable book, but when you buy books online you only get a preview. This book told about a birthmother that loved their little cub sooo much and did what was best... some of us buy these books so that we can read to our children about how great the adoption process was. My son is NOT ready to hear about birthmom and her reasons for her choices. I bought this for his birthday as I do each year, and it was too late to find another one. Great idea, but sometimes people just aren't ready for that talk yet.
