These were the first words of my professor this semester, and now (after the course) I completely agree:"This is an awful book to try and learn from. It is highly technical and hard to read\understand. It will be useful later on as a reference to you."
I went the entire semester learning from the professor, who usually didn't use the text, as it is very wordy/technical. He taught in a way that was easy to grasp and communicated the basics. Comparing the material I learned (in layman's terms) to the extremely technical jargon that this text used was uncomfortable.
If you are trying to learn, stay away from this book.
if you need a reference book, this is probably good for you.

I ordered an older version of this book, I am assuming this is very similar to the edition which I have. This is by far one of the best mathematics textbooks I have ever laid hands on. It doesn't spend a lot of time giving you examples, so if you feel you can't extrapolate from base theories, you may have some trouble using this book. However, to put Differential Equations, Vector and Multivariable Calculus, Linear Algebra, Complex Analysis and Partial Differential Equations into one book was absolutely brilliant on the part of Zill. This book is a must have for any mathematics or engineering student.
