5.0 out of 5 stars A trip around the world, Mar 11 2001
By C. Walker - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: Adventist International Cookbook: Favorite Vegetarian Recipes from Kitchens Around the World (Paperback)
If you like food from around the world, but dislike traveling to get it, or if you want to sample ethnic cuisine without leaving your dining room, this book is for you. You can take a trip around the world right at your dinner table. From beverages to entrees to breads to vegetable side dishes to salads to dessert many nationalities are represented. I especially like the side notes on interesting cultural tidbits like the significance of Challah and a description of asafetida (you'll have to get the book to find out what that is!). There could actually be a few more of these "asides" for my taste, I found them very interesting.

Also, rather than leave you to wonder (as some cookbooks do) what that ingredient you've never heard of could be, Debby includes descriptions of each unfamiliar ingredient along with suggestions on where you can find it. Now that's what I call helpful.

I've always loved ethnic food and this cookbook gives me a place where I can sample many cultures in one place rather than having to get a cookbook for each one. The recipes are relatively easy to prepare, although she does include some to challenge a creative cook. It's a great book to add a little zing to your everyday meals or to help you decide what to order the next time your fly away to some exotic location.
