rich on photos - lean on content,
By Stettler Lacombe (Calgary Canada) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Adventure Motorcycling: Everything You Need to Plan and Complete the Journey of a Lifetime (Hardcover)
There is an earnest effort by the author to be informative and cover all the bases... but frankly, if you need to be told to bring your passport on a 'round-the-world trip, you have no business going on one. The content of this book is thin, at best. Mostly, though, the reader may be compelled to say "well, d'uh!" at its silly obviousness. The photos look to have been skimmed from BMW brochures and Touratech catalogs. A foolish and over-simplified offering akin to "an amateur's guide to climbing Everest".

An excellent addition to the genre,

This review is from: Adventure Motorcycling: Everything You Need to Plan and Complete the Journey of a Lifetime (Hardcover)
It was very easy for me to arrive at my rating for this book; it's better than Riding the World: The Biker's Road Map for a Seven Continent Adventure but not quite as good as the Adventure Motorcycling Handbook, 5th: Worldwide Motorcycling Route & Planning Guide (Trailblazer). However, I certainly recommend buying this book in addition to the AMH, especially if you truly are planning a long-distance motorcycle ride. The book is well-designed and has many fantastic photos from around the world. The advice is very helpful, and even if it doesn't cram quite as much actual advice in as the AMH, it's still an extremely valuable resource. Well-written and researched, this book deserves to be on your shelf. Even if you're only dreaming of a long ride before you get this book, actually reading it and poring over the beautiful pictures will push you over the brink. Back to planning my route... 10 of 10 people found the following review helpful

adventure riding book review,

This review is from: Adventure Motorcycling: Everything You Need to Plan and Complete the Journey of a Lifetime (Hardcover)
Having ridden off-road the length of Baja in Mexico and done other adventure riding, I've been looking for books on the subject. This book seems to be one of the better ones out there, and covers a majority of the information needed to have a successful ride in and to other countries. The photography is also very good. I recommend it.

This is an excellent book for anyone wanting to get into adventure motorcycling (or just dreaming about it). It has all the info you need to get started planning and what you need to know before you go as well as what you need to take with you. It is well thought out and written, and even includes three ride summaries in the back. Lots of great color photos too. I recommend this book for everyone.
