From the animal rights activist & pug fanatic.....,
By Sandra Sophia Allen (R.I.) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Adventures of Milo and Otis (DVD)
This movie has great cinematography but if you own a pug or know anything about them, you know that pugs are not good swimmers. The scene where Otis was in the river with the bear put me on the edge of my seat!! THE POOR THING WENT UNDER LIKE 3 TIMES!!!I wanted to jump through the screen and save him! And when he was on a rock in the middle of the ocean, you could tell he was scared!! I'm not saying there was any abuse per se but animals shouldn't be put in situations where they are scared!! And the poor things look scared in several scenes. "Animals are reliable, most all full of love, true in their affections, predictable in their actions, grateful and loyal. Difficult standards for people to live up to." ~Alfred A. Montapert

One of the best kids' movies ever,

This review is from: The Adventures of Milo and Otis (DVD)
This movie has it all: cute animals, lovely scenery, some comedy, some suspense (but not too much for a gentle hearted kid to handle) plus a story about friendships, and relationships that is free of the cloying Hollywood maudlinism so prevalent in some films.

Please do not buy this movie,

This review is from: The Adventures of Milo and Otis (DVD)
We just bought this and started watching with our 6 year old. What starts as a cute film soon turns into something that was questionable enough in its treatment of animals that I decided to check online reviews -- my concern started when the cat (obviously distressed) went down a waterfall in a wooden crate. I found the only reliable source of concern coming out of Australia and NZ when the film was first released - both country's SPCA equivalents were concerned about animal cruelty. If you need to know more just watch Milo being hurled off a cliff into the ocean or attacked by seagulls before you decide to buy it. Although none of the allegations were proven (even the American SPCA investigated but all of their sources "led to dead ends"), all you have to do is watch the movie to see how terrified the animals often were doing the filming. I found an excuse to turn it off and it's going to be 'broken' in the morning.
