Product Description

Book Description

Over the last few years, more and more women have been resisting the allure of "labor-free" elective C-sections in favor of the benefits of natural childbirth. Not only is it widely considered the best and safest way to deliver a child, natural childbirth empowers women by reinforcing their belief in themselves and their abilities. In Adventures in Natural Childbirth, editor Janet Schwegel taps into this growing movement with a fascinating collection of personal, engaging, and revealing stories from thirty-nine women on their journey through pregnancy, labor, and natural childbirth. These women's tales capture the full range of emotions and physical sensations natural childbirth can evoke—from calm to fear, from elation to pain, and everything in between—and give readers a true sense of the joys and the hardships involved. Divided into sections by caregiver (midwife, doula, physician, or unattended) and complete with essays from practitioners on their roles in natural birth and how they help women achieve their goals, Adventures in Natural Childbirth is essential reading for any woman who is considering—or is simply curious about—giving birth naturally.

This review is from: Adventures in Natural Childbirth: Tales From Women on the Joys, Fears, Pleasures, and Pains Of Giving Birth Naturally (Paperback)
This book was a joy to read. The stories in it are touching and very real. There are no real undertones of how "you should birth" but rather real tales of women , their families and what they went through. It includes homebirth ad hosptal birth and is very empowering for any mom to be.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful, realistic accounts of birthing, Feb 24 2006
By Wendy S. Martin "doula and childbirth educator" - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: Adventures in Natural Childbirth: Tales From Women on the Joys, Fears, Pleasures, and Pains Of Giving Birth Naturally (Paperback)
This is a great book for anyone who is curious about what birth is really like, and can boost the confidence of women to believe in their own capacity to birth. It also is a good reminder for everyone to stay flexible, because you never know what birth will bring! Highly recommended by this childbirth educator and doula. :)

I'm 23 weeks pregnant and this book was a huge help in helping me make my final birthing plans. It offers many different situations and stories, while still being enpowering and enlightening. If you're considering natural birth, this is definetly a must read for you. Enjoy!!
