From all accounts of his co-workers at the time, George Reeves disliked playing Superman, but you wouldn't know it, by viewing this DVD. He is so comfortable playing the dual role as the bigger-than-life-itself Superman, as well as the retiring newspaperman, Clark Kent, it often feels like the role was made for the man. His likeability oozes from every scene. No doubt in my mind, that the popularity of Superman in later years was created out of the depth Reeves gave the character, through his performance.
I love every episode of the TV series. Season five is especially wonderful, because the characters were by now, highly developed and the situations clearly defined. From the rather darker, less campy season one (with Phyllis Coates as Lois Lane), to the later episodes where Superman walks through walls in lieu of smashing through them with his superpowers, the entertainment comes through from 1957-58, right into 2011.
