From all accounts of his co-workers at the time, George Reeves disliked playing Superman, but you wouldn't know it, by viewing this DVD. He is so comfortable playing the dual role as the bigger-than-life-itself Superman, as well as the retiring newspaperman, Clark Kent, it often feels like the role was made for the man. His likeability oozes from every scene. No doubt in my mind, that the popularity of Superman in later years was created out of the depth Reeves gave the character, through his performance.

I love every episode of the TV series. Season five is especially wonderful, because the characters were by now, highly developed and the situations clearly defined. From the rather darker, less campy season one (with Phyllis Coates as Lois Lane), to the later episodes where Superman walks through walls in lieu of smashing through them with his superpowers, the entertainment comes through from 1957-58, right into 2011.

As a kid I would wake up real early in the morning to watch the Superman series and always ended wanting more.... Now I actually own them all! After a long and difficult week I can pretend I am a kid again and believe in the do-gooders and the "American way"!

4.0 out of 5 stars DON'T GO SUPERMAN ! Jan 25 2009

Don't go Superman! Has Superman's time as protector of Metropolis and the rest of the world come to an end or will he return one day to face a new set of challenges? Sadly the final 26 thrilling episodes comprising of seasons 5 & 6 of "The Adventures of Superman" in color have come to an end. Superman has indeed hung up his cape, hopefully not for good because Metropolis still needs him.

Warner Studios has done a really nice job with the final installment of "Superman" and I'm glad I own this amazing DVD set. Once again it appears that very little restoration went into this release as the episodes do suffer from dirt, debris and scratches especially in the stock footage segments. The final 26 episodes presented in color are spread out over 5 single sided discs with great artwork and packaging. I don't know if this series will ever see a completely restored release for DVD, but until then I'll have my season sets to watch over and over.

Thanks to Warner Studios for this DVD release and thanks to George Reeves where ever you are, you will always be the man of steel to me.
