I can't believe I forgot to mention the great jazz trumpet, backed up by the flavor of Africa.

What a great history of a people coordinated with the history of their music.

Add this music to your library. And share it with your children.

5.0 out of 5 stars A devastatingly powerful work., May 20 1999
This review is from: African Portraits (Audio CD)
African Portraits is a devastatingly powerful work; a piece of truth pouring into my ears. Strong vocals with great harmonies and layering, supported yet never overpowered by the orchestra. The drums played a major role rather than the usual delegation to a background position. Hannibal's judicious use of dissonance was an exquisite joy to the ear.

This is truly a classic of the nineties. May the peoples of the world have the determination and fortitude to move on from here.

3.0 out of 5 stars African Portraits, Jan 18 2006

I am not sure whether or not the album is also a part of a stage play. One of my favorites is the Victor Nelson's Cottonfield featuring Jevetta Steele as solist. It is often played every Sunday in the Chicago area in the Gospel timespan. Most of the other songs are filled with rich african ethnicity, an enjoyabale and entertaining album. I would like to know more about Hannibal and was this album from a broadway play. Either way you will be thoroughly entertained.
