2.0 out of 5 stars Boring. June 19 2013
Format:Blu-ray
This movie had a lot of potential to be good however it was super boring. Will smiths voice never changed and he sat in a chair the whole movie. His son did a reallly poor job of acting and talks so awkward so it made the movie seem realllllly bad.. We stopped watching half way through.

4.0 out of 5 stars After Earth Review. Oct. 18 2013
By Digital Tiger TOP 1000 REVIEWER
Format:Blu-ray
After Earth is better then some say, no it's not going to win any awards but I found it to be very good. The movie moves along at a good pace, no long spots where your wishing the movie would just get on and do something. Action is not over done but when present it is well done and looks good. Jaden Smith is no Will Smith when it comes to acting but he did good considering his age and experience. I enjoyed his performance and look forward to future performances. To sum it up, good movie. Some people don't seem to like Jaden Smith's acting but it's not bad at all. Perhaps renting this movie first is the way to go, but definitely give it a chance.

3.0 out of 5 stars A better than expected Sci-Fi drama. Nov. 10 2013
By Robert Badgley TOP 500 REVIEWER
Format:DVD
After Earth(released May/13)stars,among others,Jaden Smith as Kitai Raige,Will Smith as Cypher Raige,Sophie Okonedo as Faia Raige and Zoë Kravitz as Senshi Raige. This is quite a decent Sci-Fi tale, that I didn't think was going to do it for me,with the pairing of Will and his son.But lo and behold Will's son Jaden comes through and actually turns in a respectable performance.
The story finds father Will as a General in the army of the future,Rangers to be exact. The Earth is unlivable for humans and they have vacated it for other environs 1,000 years before. To top this their new home Nova Prime has been invaded by alien creatures who use their "dogs",called Ursas,to hunt humans and kill them.An Ursa is blind and hunts by smell. To stop over producing pheromones which the Ursas can detect, the Rangers try to learn a technique to suppress all emotion called "ghosting".
Jaden is haunted by the memories of his sister being killed by an Ursa. She died as he watched. Now his father is returning home on his birthday and he has failed to become a Ranger. It is a tense reunion and Will decides(with a bug in his ear from his wife)to take his son with him on a simple mission to take a captured Ursa to another planet for training purposes. Will tells his wife that this is his last mission and he wants to retire and work with her when he returns.Along the way their ship gets caught in a meteorite storm and they are forced down on a restricted planet. The planet is old Earth.Their scanners and warning systems tell them that everything there is deadly. Will is hurt in the crash and his son must travel in a heavier gravity and with a limited air supply to the tail section located about 60 miles away. The reason is that the distress beacon on board has been damaged and the only other one is there.

1.0 out of 5 stars Why? July 30 2013
Format:Blu-ray
Why does Will Smith's kid get to keep being in movies, he's up there with Kristen Stewart for the most emotionless actor, and why does he always have this confused look on his face?

I had no idea M Night Syamalan was involved in this, it doesn't make sense.. usually he waits till the end to reveal the big plot twist but we find it out in the first 20 minutes SPOILER: they landed on earth. If there was another twist at the end I sadly missed it as I only sat through about an hour of this movie and that was it for me.

1.0 out of 5 stars Terrible June 25 2013
By Foxco
Format:Blu-ray
I can't believe that production companies keep giving M Shamalyan money to make movies. He is a terrible director and I've not been able to sit through any of his movies for more than 20 minutes tops. I actually didnt know this was directed by him until it occurred to me that the poor quality, story, substance of the movie reminded me a lot of his previous works. After I stopped watching the movie I check and sure enough.. he was the director. Terrible movie don't give them your money.

1.0 out of 5 stars Will, What Happened? March 1 2014
By Moodywoody TOP 500 REVIEWER
Format:DVD
As a science fiction fan I had high hopes when I decided to see this film. I was so disappointed, to the point that I am confident is saying this could be Will Smith's worst film.

It is unforgivable for a science fiction film to be boring, and this one is in spades. Even the action sequences are rather simplistic and ho hum. Given that the story is absolutely ludicrous, even for a science fiction film, makes this film a horrendous experience for the viewer. I really feel sorry for those people who paid big bucks to see this movie in the theatre.

The fact that Will Smith's acting is so wooden in this film that it is embarrassing. None of the charisma that his fans are used to seeing is anywhere to be seen in this film.

Finally, this film is another example of the artistic decline of the promising director M. Night Shayamalan. He is still trying to capture the magic of his first two films with Bruce Willis. Sad.

What a shame. If he was to do a science film, he should have chose a much better vehicle.

4.0 out of 5 stars Worth the buy Jan. 29 2014
Format:Blu-ray|Verified Purchase
I enjoyed the movie. Although the critics didn't care for this movie, I'm glad I got to see it. It's not you typical movie with lots of actors and that is probably the only downfall of this movie. It could have been a great movie if it would have had a few more actors in it. I thought that the movie was too expensive for what it was. Had I known it before hand I probably would not have purchased it and would have waited to see it on TV.

2.0 out of 5 stars Interesting story idea, but poorly executed
I wonder how good this movie would have been with a lead that can carry a movie. Unfortunately, Jaden Smith isn't up to that task. Read more

3.0 out of 5 stars Potential To Be Great, But Only Mediocre
I suspect, but don't know, that Will Smith, who I normally like in just about anything, needs to plug his son in order to carry on the family's film dynasty. Read more

3.0 out of 5 stars Not what I was hoping for
I love most of the films with Will Smith but this one left me sort of disappointed, except for the fact that his son was great. Maybe he'll be better than his father.

2.0 out of 5 stars disappointed
For a Will Smith movie I was disappointed. I guess it was a movie written for his son. Storyline was decent.
