"You may be gaining ground...",
By IndieRockWinter (Vancouver, BC) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Aim For The Holes In Their Liv (Audio CD)
If you are looking for a new rock band to statisfy your Canadian indie rock cravings, look no further..On their Mint Records debut, Novillero blend guitar-driven rock with piano, horns, hand claps, and layered vocal harmonies to produce a solid album of indie rock tunes. The songs on Aim Right For The Holes In Their Lives vary from fast-paced rock to more mellow indie pop. Some highlights include: - the head-bobbing, toe-tapping The Hypothesist - the Beatles-esque Abbey - Gaining Ground/Losing Sight, which is just plain indie rock goodness - the instantly catchy Habit Over Heart, which is sure to get stuck inside your head (trust me!) - the beautifully put together Let's Pull Over Here, which features Nathan singer/songwriter Keri McTighe Definitely a good album...check them out!

Aim right for Novillero. A gem from Canada,
By Wickerlove "Wickerlove" - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: Aim For The Holes In Their Liv (Audio CD)
'Aim Right For The Holes In Their Lives' basically combines melodic power-pop with mariachi-style trumpets, and Novillero pull it off quite well, almost in the same way The Boo Radleys successfully fused Britpop with horns. The best description would be Sloan or The New Pornographers meeting Blood Sweat And Tears and Chicago, with trumpets and keyboards periodically appearing like splashes of colour on a music canvas. Yet Novillero has more depth than gloss, treading into The Dears-like intensity and urgency. Overall 'Aim Right For The Holes In Their Lives' is strong and polished, dynamic and well-produced. It's really worth a listen.

An excellent sophomore record for the Canadians. The songs are crisp and well-produced. I find the songs stuck in my head hours after listening. I purchased a copy of this disk for a friend as well. One of the better sounds to come out of Canada in a while. Listen to "Abbey" and "Aptitude."
