The Boys war time MGM-ers finally come to DVD!, Dec 4 2006
This review is from: Air Raid Wardens/Nothing but Trouble (DVD)
Well it has taken awhile but Laurel and Hardys' war time MGM releases "Air Raid Wardens"(/43) and "Nothing But Trouble"(/45) have finally arrived on DVD.And they were certainly worth the wait.
The movies themselves have been cleaned up and dusted off pretty darn good and look better than I've ever seen them. It's a bare bones release with nothing more than the movies themselves and their trailers, something not totally unexpected.
Again the Boys are at the top of their form and their comradery and the way they play off of each other are a wonder to behold. These films for some reason have not been held in very high esteem in the Laurel and Hardy fan base(a little above but not much over the Fox films) but I have always held fond memories for both of these especially "Nothing But Trouble".In that one they befriend a young boy who turns out to be a king and who later finds himself the target of an assasination attempt by his power hungry uncle. One of the reasons I came to love these characters so much in the first place is because besides being child-like themselves they were more often than not VERY kind to children. And this movie drives home the point when Stan says:"We like children, don't we Ollie?" and Ollie responds with:"We sure do"...complete with two smiling and sincere facial expressions.I had seen this side of them all through their Roach period but I always recall this movie in particular kind of putting the exclamation mark,if you will,on the whole thing.
For all Laurel and Hardy fans out there these titles are a must for your library. For those new to the Laurel and Hardy world I would not hesitate to recommend these films to you as primers. They are great fun for the whole family and a great way to get to know the greatest film comedy team there has ever been.

GOOD FOR A FEW LAUGHS !, Dec 2 2006
This review is from: Air Raid Wardens/Nothing but Trouble (DVD)
This is a pretty good effort for a Warner Brothers home video DVD release. For the price you'll get two Laurel & Hardy feature films on one single sided disc with nice artwork and detail. Considering that these films are over 60 years old the audio & video quality is surprisingly good and better than anything I expected. If you're a fan of Laurel & Hardy, this DVD is definitely for you. This is good clean fun from one of the best comedy teams to ever hit the silver screen.
DVD Features Include:
Theatrical trailer
Languages: English & French (Air Raid Wardens only)
Subtitles: English, French & Spanish (feature films only)

Air Raid Riots, Dec 20 2003
Laurel & Hardy down on their luck and bumbling failures throughout this entire film until they finally are able to prove themselves worthy by thwarting a plot to destroy their towns most valuable war asset. Although the movie does not feature the popular background music we are used to in the previous Laurel & Hardy features and has a way too large Hardy they still have great timing and provide laughs. Not nearly as bad as the horrific to watch "Atoll K(Utopia)" in which their timing was horrible and they both looked incredibly unhealthy. This one was a pleasant watch. I think the kids would enjoy this.
