Book Description

Dec 1 2008

For the first time ever, this translation fully reveals the primary reference of Islamic law for the last 800 years—the Hidayah. Revered as one of the most widely read books in the Muslim world—second only to the Qu'ran—its knowledge has been likened to a mysterious code, accessible only to those who study Islam. Its success has been attributed to its unique methodology, combining the statement of rules with the case method of instruction. Eloquently translated into English along with commentary and notes, this fascinating edition sheds new light on one of the most sought-after volumes in the history of Islam.

Product Description

"This translation by Imran Ahsan Khan Nyazee is both precise and straightforward. With his knowledge of Islamic law and jurisprudence coupled with his command of both the Arabic and English languages, he has conveyed the meaning of the original with great clarity."  —Dr. Mohammed Akram Nadwi, research fellow, Oxford Center for Islamic Studies, Oxford

"A fine interpretation of the text that allows the reader to grasp the original ideas that al-Marghinani presents, but does so in a language that is clear and surprisingly free of opacities of the original work. The translation is an important contribution and vastly improves on previous attempts to render the Hidayah in English."  —R. Kevin Jaques, assistant professor, department of religious studies, Indiana University

"A great achievement in all respects."  —Dr. N. A. Baloch, professor emeritus, University of Sindh

5.0 out of 5 stars A valuable book for Hanafiyyah Fiqh March 30 2010

Format:Hardcover|Verified Purchase
A comprehensive and detailed book on Hanafiyyah Fiqh.

The translation is very accurate and author is able to effectively explain the meanings of difficult passages from the Arabic text. A small drawback, perhaps, is that the original Arabic text has not been provided with the translation, so it requires a little searching in order to compare passages between the two languages.

The commentary at the bottom of every page is very useful and gives examples (where applicable) to aid understanding.

Beautifully published and bound.

I would also note that there are many other chapters of Al-Hidayah which have been omitted from Volume I and Volume II, including Buying and Selling and other detailed topics.
