I purchased Alf for my mom who is 88 years "young" and she just loves her Alf. She was watching it on tv every night and then for some reason they took it off the air. She was disappointed, so I thought I would surprise her with a dvd. She just loves it (and I must admit so do I).

The quality of the picture is excellent. So at any age Alf is a winner!!!

Good TV series. Horrible DVD!! June 18 2005
By Ted - Published on Amazon.com
Format: DVD Verified Purchase
The Alf Series is one of the best on TV and releasing butchered episodes of the show should be a crime. I bought the whole series UNCUT taped from TV in their first run 4 years ago on eBay and I am sticking with those.

In case you do decide to buy this I have episode Synopses like I did last year for Season 1 They were not on the DVD in airdate order last year and are probably not this year either

Working My Way Back To You

When Alf is forced to move to the garage after damaging an expensive painting with a sardine can, he is let back after promising to be on his best behavior for whole week. but when the week is over he accidentaly blows up the kitchen while cooking a meal for the family.

Gilligan's Island Special

Alf dreams that he is on an Island with the Gilligan and the rest. Bob Denver, Alan Hale, Russell Johnson, and Dawn Wells guest star.

Take a Look at Me Now

Mrs. Ochmonek sees Alf and when everyone convinces her that it was her imagination, she thinks that she has gone crazy.

Wedding Bell Blues

Alf joins a monastery when he lears that he was born in wedlock which is bad in his culture. The monks are not too happy with the fact that he talks a lot.

Prime Time

When Alf's favorite show, Polka Jamboree, is in danger of cancellation, he rigs the TV ratings to make it #1

Some Enchanted Evening

ALF shows up at Halloween costume party hosted by Willie and Kate as himself. While they are upset, the guests love him.

Pretty Woman

Lynn is upset ofer her looks and Alf enrolls her in a beauty paegent.

Something's Wrong With Me

Alf sets a severe case of the hiccups which is in danger of putting a strain on the wedding plans for Kate's mother.

Night Train

Alf and Willie hop a freight train for fun and end up in Barstow.

Isn't it Romantic

Alf and the children give Kate and Willie a second honeymoon and do too good of a job at replicating their first one.

Hail to the Chief

Kate dreams that she and Alf are running for president and Alf wins in the biggest landslide ever.

Alf's Christmas special

The Tanner family spend Christmas in a mountain cabin owned by a family friend. Alf gets lost and ends up in the children's ward of a local hospital. He disguises himself as a stuffed toy by remining motionless. He later befriends a terminally ill girl when they are alone and he helps her cope with the fact that she is dying and convinces Willie's friend not to commit suicide in a manner that parallels "It's a wonderful life" (Despite it's secular presentation of Christmas, This episode brought tears to my eyes)

The Boy Next Door

The Ochmonek's nephew, Jake, comes to live with them and becomes friends with Alf.

Can I Get a Witness

Alf is accused of breaking the Ochmonek's window with a football and convinces them to give him a trial. After a guilty verdict, the real culprit confesses.

We're so Sorry Uncle Albert

Willie's cranky uncle comes for a visit but they are all surprised by how nice he is. He says he is trying to make amends but when he sees Alf, he has a heart attack and dies.

Someone to Watch Over Me

After a string of burglaries in the neighborhood, a neighborhood watch is formed and Willie is appointed leader. When Alf spots the burglar he goes over to catch him but the burglar flees and the police show up and think Alf is the burglar.

We Gotta Get Out of this Place

Alf moves in with his blind friend, Jody, for a while and being his usual self, causes trouble.

You Ain't Nothin' But a Hound Dog

The Tanners take in a lost dog which becomes the center of attention. Alf becomes jealous and giver it away to a woman (Anne Ramsey) claiming to be it's owner but is obviously lying. Willie manages to rescue the dog from the woman and her boyfriend (Logan Ramsey)

Hit Me With Your Best Shot

When Brian is beat up at school, Alf calls the bully's father and vows revenge. When he shows up, Willie ends up fighting with him.

Movin' Out

When Wille accepts a higher paying job with a long commute, he decides the family should move. Alf does not want this so he scares off potential buyers by making the house appear in very bad condition.

I'm Your Puppet

Alf buys a ventriloquist's dummy through the mail and it becomes such a problem that Willie calls in a shrink who treated Alf in the past.

Kate's alcoholic friend stays with the family for the night and when she meets Alf at 2AM while she is on her binge, she thinks he is her imaginary drinking buddy she sees when she is drunk. Alf convinces her to go to a clinic.

We Are Family

Alf dreams that he reveals himself to the world and wins a sopt on the David Letterman show.

Varsity Drag

Alf gets 10 paper routes to earn enough money so the family can afford to send Lynn to college

Cut to Shreds! Aug. 31 2005
By Alan J. Shaw - Published on Amazon.com
Format: DVD Verified Purchase
These are syndicated cut to shreds versions of a classic show. Worse than the first syndicated cuts that were broadcast. Entire scenes cut where Alf sings songs that the cheapo Lions Gate may have to pay rights for. This is what keeps video pirates in business.

ALF 2 DVD Just as Bad as ALF 1 DVD Aug. 21 2005
By Doug Douglas - Published on Amazon.com
Format: DVD
I taped all of the original ALF episodes when they all originally aired. I still have them all and believe me if you could see what I have Vs these DVD Sets you would not go near them for free. There are major sequences missing that absolutely ruin all of the episodes on DVD. This includes Major plot lines extremely funny moments and absolutely very necessary dialog. Some episodes on the ALF Season 1 Syndicated DVD version had cuts as long as 5 minutes removed. Considering that they are only 24 minutes in Length, you are missing almost 1/4 of the episode. I cannot believe that they would issue out chopped up Syndicated versions again with Season 2. I returned my Season 1 DVD the same day I bought it. I personally showed the Store Manager the DVD version of an ALF Episode and my original Taped version of that same episode and she was totally appalled. That's the thing that really upsets me the Most. Good people who really want these and are going to buy them have no idea what they are really missing. Just imagine your favorite film of 2 hours length having 20 minutes cut out of it when you bought on DVD. That's exactly what's happening here. These DVD should never have been released in this syndicated form.Your are not just missing some DVD extra's, You are missing the whole Show.

Show's funny, gets less stars for the syndicated thing Sept. 1 2005
By Joseph Siegler - Published on Amazon.com
Format: DVD Verified Purchase
If you've read the other reviews, you'll already know that the episodes on this disc are syndicated versions, not the original NBC ones. That's a shame, as my wife and I watched the show since Day 1.

It is nice to have them on DVD. Would it have been better to have the original uncut ones? Hell yeah. But I'll take this.

The comments by Alf on the DVD menus are pretty funny, and the blooper reel is awesome. As a long time Alf fan, I'm glad to see these on DVD, but my excitement is tinged with disappointment over them being edited.

The DVD intros recorded by Alf are quite funny. The bit about more FBI warnings made me laugh out loud, as did some of the blooper reel - to hear Alf (mildly) swear made me and my wife really laugh out loud). The syndicated issue aside, the show is STILL damn funny - there's no getting around that issue. :)

NOTE: There's a statement from Lion's Gate on why they have the syndicated versions over the originals online at tvshowsondvd dot com - look in their Alf section.

NOTE 2: This is almost the exact same review I wrote for Series 1 of Alf on DVD. Since Lion's Gate showed no effort in putting the original versions on DVD, I don't think I need to write something different for my S2 review over my S1 review.

ALF Gets Butchered Again Aug. 8 2005
By B. A. Jasman - Published on Amazon.com
Format: DVD
I have been a fan of ALF from the start. ALF desserves a lot more respect than what he is getting from Lion's Gate. The excuse they give about the original air masters just does not wash considering the quality of the episodes presented on the DVD release of The Alf Files by another company that used the air masters.

Other TV shows from earlier times are being released in their complete forms. Why can't Lion's Gate do the same?

I will not buy this set and urge others to do the same and maybe, just maybe, Lion's Gate will get the message.
