About the Author
Born in 1900 in Pennsylvania, Alice Neel had her first solo exhibition in Havana, Cuba at the age of 26, but was not shown regularly until she was in her 50s. In 2000, the Whitney Museum of American Art, New York, hosted a retrospective of her work. The artist died in 1984.
