I paid full price for this collectors edition and now it's on sale, but still wouldn't spend the money. If Amazon took returns on open, terribly flawed games - this steaming pile would be returned ASAP!Game looks like it belongs to PS2 era. DO NOT BUY THIS GAME!!! Sega and Gearbox should be ashamed of this release!
I don't play video games, but I do collect action figures. This item served a double purpose, I wanted the alien action figure that was inside the box and I gave the alien game to my son, who thought it was pretty cool.
I bought this for $20 mostly for the statue, and because I never got to the play the game when it came out due to the huge number of negative reviews it got.
I have to say, the game surprised me a lot of ways. The campaign, which almost everybody hated, turned out to the be most fun I had from a FPS in a long time. Do yourself a favor and do NOT play it by yourself. Go online, and you should still be able to find some other people who are playing it for the first time thanks the the rapidly falling price of the game. If possible, try to create your own game (might require some luck) and choose the hardest difficulty. Then enjoy the ride!
Easily one of the most fun, and funniest, co-op campaigns I have ever played, thanks to some very cool people I met who were willing to sit through the whole story with me. It reminds me a bit of playing Borderlands but with a more serious vibe, with some nice tension here and there. That's not to say there weren't massive problems with the game, but for the most part they were easy to ignore. The motion tracker is really cool, and so are some of the weapons.
Multiplayer, which I expected to be good, turned out to be somewhat of a mixed bag. The game modes are uninspired, except for Escape. There aren't enough maps (unless you buy DLCs). The alien controls are extremely buggy, and the ridiculous amount of (bad) aim assist made playing both sides kinda boring.
The game is also dead, from a community standpoint. Finding a game often takes several hours of searching, and praying. Co-op, as I mentioned, is still functional. However there is only the campaign and once you beat it there is very little reason to go back as it gets very predictable and easy.
All in all for $20 this was a bargain as I got a really cool statue that will hold its value long after this game is long forgotten and buried, and 10+ hours of solid entertainment. Just go in with the right mindset, and pretend that what you're playing isn't an Aliens game but a piece of fan work with slightly better budget.
Better yet, buy one for a friend and one for yourself and enjoy this unique but deeply flawed gaming experience together. At this price it's more affordable and fun than buying the latest Call of Duty and playing it by yourself. You can always sell the statues!Read more ›
