Product Description

A woman compelled. . .

In the glittering world of Regency England, Anne Wilder played a dangerous game.  A widowed lady by day, by night she became a masked thief preying on society's elite.  She roved high above London's black rooftops, compelled by phantoms from her past to take ever greater risks.  Until her restless spirit led her into Colonel Jack Seward's trap. . . where seduction was her only way out.

A man obsessed. . .

She'd played him for a fool, taking advantage of his hungry response to escape from his clutches.  But as Jack hunted for his thief, his heart fell captive to a self-possessed widow.  Torn between illicit passion and tender love, Jack is duty-bound to capture the audacious criminal, even if it means ripping society apart to do so.  Now he stalked her through the ton, never realizing the lovely widow who captured his heart was the same woman who roused his most violent passions.

A love that defied king and country. . .

4.0 out of 5 stars Only the darkness in it kept this from getting 5 stars, May 31 2004
This review is from: All Through the Night (Mass Market Paperback)
All Through the Night is an engrossing read. Jack is a compelling hero: dark, dangerous, deadly, and a perfect gentleman. Anne is a tortured heroine: smart, lovely, guilt-ridden, and hiding a shocking alter-ego. Jack is wonderful in his early openly admitted need for her. Anne, knowing more than he does, is more reticent. In fact, she eventually hurts him on purpose to push him away. In fear and anger, they each resort to using sex as a weapon--one of the dark portions of this book--but in the end, they come to terms with the dangerous, dark world of their pasts and leave it behind for a new world of light and love.

Brockway's writing is at times poetic as she decribes scenes and characters, particularly where Jack is concerned. The shadows of London are superbly portrayed and offer an interesting juxtaposition to the glowing entertainments of the ton. Exceptionally well-written.

3.0 out of 5 stars Great storyline but..., Mar 12 2004

This review is from: All Through the Night (Mass Market Paperback)
I thought this storyline was a 5+, the physical encounters were a sizzling 10, and I really liked the characters. However, much of the writing was just so stiff that I found it rather distracting. I mean, how many people "think thus"? I certainly appreciate historical accuracy and I understand that part of Jack's charm is his gentlemanly behavior juxtaposed against the dichotomy of his rough background. Nevertheless, something just didn't flow. It was still a nice story. I just see where it could have been so much more with a more fluid, poetic writing style.

3.0 out of 5 stars Didn't Do It For Me, Jan 11 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: All Through the Night (Mass Market Paperback)
I bought this book because of the rave reviews on this site, but I have to say, I didn't find the dark complexity that others did. I found a trite, silly and implausible premise - the lady cat burglar thing, ho-hum - that was redeemed slightly by some better than average characterizations. But brilliance? Hardly. If you are a junkie and need your fix, this book ought to provide a satisfactory buzz. But if you are a connosieur, you've got to stick with Laura Kinsale.
