Also starring Ari Meyers as Emma Jane McArdle, Allison Smith as Jennie Lowell, Frederick Koehler as Chip Lowell and Paul Hecht as Charles Lowell.
Guest stars during this stellar season include film actors Paul Gleason, Robert Cornthwaite, a teenage Ben Stiller plus David Rasche (Sledge Hammer!), Alan North (Police Squad!), Lindsay Wagner (The Bionic Woman), Patricia Richardson (Home Improvement, The West Wing), Geoff Pierson (24, Grace Under Fire), James McDaniel (NYPD Blue), Barbara Barrie (Suddenly Susan), Christa Miller (The Drew Carey Show, Scrubs), Michael O'Hare (Babylon 5), Mercedes Ruehl (Frasier) and legendary talk show host Dick Cavett. Believable and Comforting!,

I'm so glad that VEI has continued to release seasons of this excellent 80's sitcom. "Kate & Allie" has an astute combination of humor and real-life scenarios that give it an extra edge. The chemistry between Saint James and Curtin is natural and believable (which makes it hard to swallow that they reportedly got along very badly in reality). The various episodes here also strike a nice balance between focusing on Kate and Allie's issues and those of their children's. The number of notable guest stars (like Ben Stiller and Lindsay Wagner) also contribute to the overall fun of this set.In addition to the above, the show has several other redeeming qualities. One, it was filmed in New York (including short scenes at the beginning of each episode that were filmed on the actual streets); two, the premise that Kate & Allie were both single momms who had moved in together to raise their respective families. It was ahead of its time in the latter way (as proven by the fact that in later seasons, the opening credits showed Kate & Allie going to separate beds -- to disprove notions that they were lesbian). And the fact that it was filmed in New York definitely gave it a vibe and mood that sets it apart from most Hollywood-based sitcoms. Let's hope that VEI will treat us to the remaining three seasons of this unique show!

Susan Saint James and Jane Curtin return for the third season of this classic, endearing '80s sitcom as two divorced moms, sharing a New York City apartment to help make ends meet.With their children - Kate's Emma and Allie's Chip and Jennie - the lifelong best friends get into their shares of hijinks. They also support one another through emotional crises, as seen in "Thanksgiving," where Allie finds herself alone with Charles' new wife Claire. I remember watching this show in the late 80ies on Sky Channel in Europe and missed having it on air when this channel went out of business. Now I am looking forward to seeing more episodes of this, as I did with seasons one and two. I received this collection at my friends address in great shape and am taking it back to Switzerland with me. Thanks

Lots of fun and laughs.I hope they don't take as long to release the rest of the seasons.For those of us who are not amused by todays tacky sit-coms Kate and Allie offers hours of well written,decent entertainment!
