I have enjoyed works by W. P. Kinsella ever since reading "Shoeless Joe" many years ago. (I also enjoyed the movie "Field of Dreams"). It's been a while since I had a chance to read anything by Mr. Kinsella, but this collection of short stories was a wonderful return to writing by an excellent author.
When I say "short stories" I really mean "short", for many of them are only one or two pages in length. Even so, they encompass a situation or a slice of life that is complete in itself, and that is most satisfying.
Perhaps the most interesting story (if I can really only select one from a group of excellent ones) is "The Alligator Report", which is constructed as if it were a college literature exam, with discussion questions after every paragraph or so. I found the entire concept hilarious, and highly recommend this book to anyone who thoroughly enjoys fine writing.

There are some great slice of life vignettes in this book. "The Job" was my favorite story.
