"A don't-miss treat!" -- Rendezvous

Wyoming Wildflowers -- Book 1 -- Indian Paintbrush
Dave Currick was everything Matty Brennan wanted for as along as she could remember. Right up until he broke her heart six years ago. Now that she's returned to Wyoming for good, what she wants more than anything is to save her family's ranch. Even if that means swallowing her pride and asking Dave to marry her.

Matty's up to something - Dave knows that much. Just as he knows that Matty needs help, so of course he'll provide it, just as he has all her life. Doing what's best for Matty is second nature, and part of the cowboy code. Even when it comes to marrying her in name only. Although he can't resist one hot-blooded kiss after the I-dos of their marriage of convenience wedding.

Maybe - just maybe - his Matty will become more to him than Almost a Bride.

Wildflowers have to be strong and resilient to bloom amid the rugged western beauty of Wyoming - and so do the women.

3.0 out of 5 stars Light Romance, Predictable Plot March 5 2015
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
A Romance novel set in Wyoming and book one of the Wyoming Wildflower series. This was an okay book. Not fast paced, just a well written, relaxing read. I did like that her female lead was a bit too bullheaded, which led to some drama, but she also stood her ground and lived life on her own terms. I also liked that the sex scenes were not overdone. This is not my usual genre so I won't be reading another. If Romance is your cup of tea, I think you many enjoy this light read. I took 2 stars off for a predictable plot, no feel for the setting, and characters that could have been stronger and more believable.

3.0 out of 5 stars .....It was okay.... Jan. 31 2015
Format:Kindle Edition
The book was okay in th beggining, but then I got really annoyed with the mains because Matty was a spoiled brat and ryshed ibto things without thinking, and the author didn't take in other options, mking the conflicts to seem like there was only one solurion.Thw guy was okay, but he was a bit cheesy. There were also grammatical errors, which non-stop. Overall, it was an okay book, but I would not reccomend it.

3.0 out of 5 stars Pretty Good June 1 2014
Format:Kindle Edition
Matty finds out she has inherited the family ranch, Flying W, which has been in her family for several generations. She also learns that it comes with incredible debt. The easiest way to deal with it would be to just let the place go but she can't do that to her family's home so wants to get a grant that will help her out of the financial mess and get the ranch going again. The problem is that she lives in the wrong county to apply for the grant. She comes up with a 'business' plan to get the grant which involves marrying her ex-boyfriend, Dave, who lives in the right county.

Matty really doesn't want to ask Dave to do this because they broke up 6 years ago but she still loves him. He doesn't know this and Matty knows it will be very painful for her to be around Dave while they are in the fake marriage. Turns out that Dave still loves Matty too, but she doesn't know that either. It's pretty funny watching them pretend to be married in the beginning of the book. They have their ups and downs but it's entertaining. Dave is great and tries to do everything he can for Matty, his old friend and love. I liked that he was so dependable and solved Matty's problems so easily. Even with all his good qualities, Dave had issues too, which come out later in the book. I couldn't like Matty. She came up with this plan to save the ranch but didn't think of the consequences, or what affect it might have on anyone else before she acted.

I liked this book but the story of a misunderstanding when Dave broke up with Matty when they were younger and now they are older and have to solve the misunderstanding was not new. The ending is good with a HEA.

I found this book interesting and full of details for events that were unravelling in the story. A good read

5.0 out of 5 stars Especially good romance May 5 2012
By Dafna Yee - Published on
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I thought that ALMOST A BRIDE was an exceptionally good romantic story. Not only was the book very well-written and well-edited, the conflict between Dave and Matty was totally believable. Matty's attributes were many, but nowhere was it claimed that she was unusually beautiful (except in Dave's eyes, of course), so it was much easier for me to identify with her. The same is true for Dave; his looks played little or no part in Matty's long-standing love.

Not only Dave and Matty were three-dimensional; the other characters in the story had well-developed personalities, too. The imagery was wonderful and it was very easy for me to immerse myself in the book. The writing style was smooth and flowed easily from beginning to end. Even though this book is the first in a trilogy, it did not have a cliff-hanger ending, thank goodness. (I absolutely hate cliff-hangers!)

I would happily recommend ALMOST A BRIDE to anyone who wants to settle in and enjoy a great love story.

4.0 out of 5 stars Deep emotion and loop holes -- Recommended May 30 2001
By C. Penn - Published on
Format:Mass Market Paperback
Dire financial and legal problems lead Matty Breenan to a desperate solution. Determined to save the Flying W ranch following the death of her great-uncle, Matty proposes marriage to Dave Currick. Never mind he broke her heart six years ago when he unexpectedly ended their affair. If he agrees, marriage to Dave, in a round about fashion, qualifies Matty for a grant that has the potential of saving the ranch.
In the three weeks since she returned to Wyoming, Matty has pointedly avoided him; now, she's suddenly proposing. Dave has no idea why Matty wants to marry him except that in some inexplicable way her reason ties to her effort to save the Flying W. Dave's convinced she won't follow through, but, if playing along lets him back in Matty's life, then he's game. So game that he finds himself married. When he learns she didn't need him, but his address, Dave's anything but thrilled. Nevertheless, he's also determined to see Matty's efforts to save her ranch succeed, whatever he must do.
Patricia McLinn finds an innovative motive for a marriage of convenience in ALMOST A BRIDE. With her characteristic flair, these powerful characters and their emotional intensity keep the pages turning. Indeed, the mix of miscommunication, deep emotion and loopholes creates a delightful read. Recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars Patricia McLinn pens a page-turning story! July 29 2001

Format:Mass Market Paperback
Matty Brennan would do anything to save the family spread...even marry the man who broke her heart six years ago. Of course, it's a marriage in name only, and of course it has nothing to do with any lingering feelings for her childhood flame. Dave Currick has no idea why it's so important that he marry Matty in name only, but he says yes because he'd do just about anything for Matty.
A marriage of convenience that's not overly convenient as it forces Matty and Dave to confront feelings from the past even as they look toward the future. The question is, what will that future hold for their marriage?
Patricia McLinn is a talented storyteller whose easy writing style and compelling plot will sweep you away.

5.0 out of 5 stars A wonderful, wacky, sexy couple ... April 12 2011
By Gerald M. Weinberg - Published on
Format:Mass Market Paperback
One of the (many) reasons I like reviewing romance novels is that I don't have to worry about spoiling the ending. We all know what the ending will be--must be or it wouldn't be a romance. Indeed, we know that Almost a Bride will end with impulsive Matty Brennan marrying steady Dave Currick. In fact, I knew that after reading the first 35 words--and I knew, to boot, that Matty would wind up saving her beloved Flying W Ranch.

Right now, I have to say I loved the story, lest my opening paragraph loses readers. That paragraph is true, but it might make Patricia McLinn's novel sound ... But, no, anything but that. You see, what counts in a romance is the journey, not the destination. And what a journey this was, with surprising twists and turns in every chapter!

I love twists--which is fortunate, because Almost a Bride almost turned me into a Bavarian pretzel. To begin with, Matty and Dave get married to begin with--in Chapter 2, three days after meeting for the first time in six years.

Well, that's not exactly true--it's a half twist. Dave marries Mattie, but Mattie isn't really married to Dave. She won't really marry him because he loves her too much?

So maybe Dave needs a knock on the head so he won't love Mattie excessively. There's nothing sure in Almost a Bride until almost the end. You never know.

But in the end, she might marry her husband for real. Her husband? You know, that guy she has the irresistible hots for.

There's much more to tell about this wonderful, wacky, sexy couple, but I'm not giving any more away. I will tell you that on every other page, these two lovable people put each other through the romance wringer and turn the crank. So, if you love to laugh; love to cry; or love to laugh and cry at the same time, then you'll definitely want to read Almost a Bride.
