Her widowed father yearns to travel but won't, so to inspire the old man she sends his garden gnome on a tour of the world; with whispered gossip, she brings together two cranky regulars at her café; she reverses the doorknobs and reprograms the speed dial of a grocer who's mean to his assistant. Gradually she realizes her own life needs fixing, and a chance meeting leads to her most elaborate stratagem of all. This is a deeply wonderful movie, an illuminating mix of magic and pragmatism. Attention, DVD événement! Sans être parfait (absence d’un véritable making of, léger bruit vidéo), cette édition est un petit bijou, à commencer par ses menus inventifs, animés et musicaux. La définition – lissée - de l’image s'associe parfaitement avec les couleurs saturées, la luminosité gérée à merveille et en parfaite adéquation avec la photo si particulière du film. Les voix sont claires, la musique dynamique et enveloppante, les effets à la fois précis et puissants, avec peu de différences entre les pistes surround DD et DTS. Les extras sont nombreux (regroupés au sein des différents univers d’Amélie) et de qualité: interview et commentaire audio passionnants du réalisateur, court-métrage réussi, bêtisier attendrissant, reportage complice sur la promotion du film ou la création de l’album photos, séquences d’essais des acteurs, ou galerie variée de photos, affiches et storyboards… Une édition à se procurer de toute urgence ! Don't get me wrong, this move is a masterpiece in it's every aspects. Also the video and sound quality is there.

The problem is that the movie has English subtitles burn-in and I wish I would've known that before making this purchase. If you're looking for the clean french version of this movie, don't get the alliance release of it because you won't be able to remove the english subtitles.

How hard would it have been to get the option to turn them on or off ?

How much do I love this movie?? In 2001 when I watched this in theater I knew that when I had my first daughter I would name her Amelie. 9 years later I got that opportunity. This movie is magical and makes your heart soar and makes you think. The music by Yann Tiersen also is awe inspiring. Watching this in Blueray versus DVD makes the colors stronger which is what you need to watch
