This complex sound sculpture was created by Brian Eno in 1978 and was even installed for a while at the Marine Terminal of New York at LaGuardia Airport. The ambient-minimalist soundscape has been alternately described as background Muzak, a profoundly artificial musical milieu, and a groundbreaking studio creation. Eno designed Music for Airports from a few simple notes and the serial organization of variable tape loops that didn't quite match up. It's a groundbreaking elaboration on the aural/spatial dimension that utilizes silence, piano, synthesizer, female voices, and, most importantly, the technology of the studio. A true metaclassic, the "music" is divided into four distinct movements. This record is the first of Eno's ambient series and is undoubtedly the best. --Mitch Myers

Product Description

The transfer from the Original Masters has been undertaken with great care by Simon Heyworth. All four albums have been Mastered using 'Class A' Analogue Electronics combined with the best Analogue to Digital conversion. No attempt has been made to re-equalize, remix or in any way tamper with or alter the original EQ'ed analogue production masters. These are the Original Masters as Brian Eno intended them to be heard.

5.0 out of 5 stars The monumental work of the Ambient Music. Aug 20 2012
By Tim
Format:Audio CD
"Music for the Airports" is the grand pioneer work of the Ambient Music and one of the "Ambient Series" that Eno proposed.
All tracks in this album are named homogeneous titles by Eno.
It's indicating that "Music for the Airports" is based on the consistent concept.

Actually, all track has some common peculiarities.
Such as, beautiful melody, deep resonance, graceful atmosphere,
non-beat, non-noise, non-aggressive, and so on.
It's like a sense swimming in the deep sea or floating in the outer space.

The lenge of "Music for the Airports" is about 50 minutes.
However, so to speak, you may feel everlasting time in this album.

5.0 out of 5 stars Music for Airports...Sunrises too! Dec 27 2003
By A Customer
Format:Audio CD
We use to play this record around 5:30 am when the sun was rising.
This was such wonderful sunrise music, also especially
comforting for a mind that had been up all night on LSD.

5.0 out of 5 stars FABULOUS... Oct 26 2009
By Annie B
Format:Audio CD
I had owned this back in LP form when it first came out and loved it then. It has stayed in the back of my mind for a couple of decades and then I decided to try and find an old copy somewhere. All the music stores I went to knew about it but had no copies...I was sooo happy to find it on Amazon! I couldn't believe how crisp it sounded. I tried to entice my 23 year old daughter into listen to it but she said she wasn't interested in music from the 70's. I tried to explain 'abient', but couldn't really. I tried to explain the music, but couldn't. Then she came in to the room one afternoon when I had it on and it blew her mind. Now I have to order another one I guess 'cause she's always got my CD! She turned her friends on to it, and they're all hooked, too. "It makes me float," she says "just what I need after a crazy day and tons of studying."

Ambient 1 is a simple piano, the angelic chorus of an electronic choir. Subtle, soft, repeating, meter-less loops of sound. Peaceful, yet longing. Initially non-descript. Read more
