Beware of this substandard release from TVA!
The transfer is 1080i and contains annoying shuttering whenever there is quick motion. The image is not as crisp or the colour as vibrant as one would expect of Blu-ray. This film definitely deserved a better fate and a 1080p transfer.
If that isn't bad enough, consider the faulty mastering of this Blu-ray: the menu does not set up properly (it endlessly loops a segment of the film and never presents the options menu). I got the disc to play through the root menu, only to find the picture a huge disappointment. This screw-up is inexcusable. Where is the quality control at TVA?!
To top off this fiasco, the disc does NOT have subtitles of any kind. Talk about cutting out the majority of the Canadian market! But add to that the lack of French subtitles for the hearing-impaired, and you've got a severe oversight by TVA's production department. They should be ashamed of putting out such a substandard product. I sent my copy back for a refund. If you want to verify these issues, simply do a web search and you'll see mentions of these issues on several review sites and discussion boards.
Amelie deserves far better treatment in HD, and here's hoping that another distributor picks it up and does a good job with the film. Avoid TVA's version at all costs!

I bought this movie for my mother for Christmas... what a terrible mistake. There is no english anywhere in this bluray version, neither subtitles nor voiceovers. Nothing. There aren't even any FRENCH subtitles (not that they would have helped)... I suppose the company responsible for this fiasco of a bluray release aren't especially concerned with the hearing impared of ANY culture.
