A Kid's Review - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Paperback
I am eleven and I really liked this book. I was recently at a used book sale and bought "American Family of the Civil War Era". I liked it, so I bought "American Family of the 1930s" and "American Family of the 1940s". The people of 1930 come permanently in swimsuits which my mom prefers over underwear. The only bad thing about this book is that you have to cut them out (they are not punched). They are worth it, though. If you are wondering which to buy I would tell you "American Family of the 1940s". That's my personal favorite because the three teenagers have such cool clothes.

I highly enjoyed this paper doll book. It's a great way to learn about fashion and history, in a fun and easy setting. I recommend this to anyone who would like a little taste of what people wore in the 40s.

Colorful Visual Reference Aug. 23 2007

I purchased several of Tom Tierney's historical paper doll sets to augment my family history projects. I have 150 years of family photos which are mostly in black and white, of course, so it's great to see the period clothing in detail and in color. The paper dolls will add so much to my research and my family's appreciation of the historical times and stories. Although I intend to keep the paper dolls uncut, they are printed on card stock which would be easy to cut and not tear apart if well-cared for.
just like when I was growing up Jan. 28 2015

I had this set of paper dolls when I was a kid and loved them. They were unfortunately lost in a move. I got these so that I can pass them on to my niece when she is old enough. If you have any interest in paper dolls, fashions over time, history or all of the above, you (or the intended recipient) will probably enjoy these. Personally, I think paper dolls can stimulate the imagination and develop story telling off the cuff skills. They may be old fashioned, but they can be enjoyed still. I am delighted with these paper dolls and look forward to a few years to admire them before passing them on.
