Product Description

Jimmie Rainwood was minding his own business when two corrupt police officers (getting an address wrong) burst into his house, expecting to find a major drug dealer. Rainwood is shot, and the officers frame him as a drug dealer. Rainwood is convicted of drug dealing, based on the perjured evidence of a police informant. Thrown into a seedy jail, fighting to prove his innocence is diffucult when he has to deal with the realities of prison life, where everyone claims they were framed.

I always like Tom Selleck movies. Some are actually very entertaining. This is by far his best dramatic role. I was very impressed how well he played the part of a framed Airline crew chief Jimmie Rainwood. F. Murray Abraham gives a great performance as one of the prison inmates, Virgil Cane, that befriends him. It has all the elements for some good drama, bad cops, drugs, decent and really bad convicts, attractive loving wife, and motive for revenge.

David Rasche and Richard Young do a fine job as the crooked detectives that frame him. I have recommended this to many people since many Selleck fans are not even aware of it. Whether you like Selleck or not you will enjoy this film if you like movies like "The Fugitive","US Marshals", and "Shawshank Redemption". It is being released on DVD soon and you can bet I pre-ordered a copy.

I won't waste too many words on this piece of lightweight fluff. Sneering bad guys, stalwart hero, one-dimensional beginning in which our hero is shown to be gosh gee whiz friendly, principled, brilliant. Selleck is unconvincing in a serious role, and the screenplay is predictable and unsubtle. More like series TV than a serious movie.

Tom Selleck is not an actor known for making blockbuster films. Although several of his movies (Quigley Down Under, Mr. Baseball) have several interesting scenes, on the whole they seem to lack a certain staying power.
One of his best big screen attempts is An Innocent Man. Aside from a well-rounded supporting cast, Selleck makes the audience feel for his character as he is thrown into a seemingly impossible situation. He shows a wonderful ability to change from a meek new fish to a respected convict in order to keep himself alive while inside. Although the prison film theme has been done over and over, this one takes us to a place where few others have. A well done film, and more importantly, one of Sellecks best to date.

What would it be like to be sentenced to a maximum security penitentiary when you are innocent of the crime? Selleck plays a man who is set up by a couple of corrupt police officers and sent to prison. A non-criminal, the experience is terrifying for Selleck in the beginning until he is forced to deal with another prisoner who has been physically harassing him. By "manning up," Selleck's character raises his status in the prison almost immediately. Some might suggest a lot of this movie contains typical prison clichés but I thought it did a tremendous job of portraying the hardening of Selleck's character's "innocence" by surviving in a very dangerous and foreign environment.

As long as I can remember I've always immensely enjoyed/loved Tom Selleck movies. This is defintely one of his best(as well as 'Her Alibi'). This is a very enjoyable prision movie with a range of emotions. This film as always been on my DVD wishlist so I'm very excited that it's finally on DVD. I highly reccomend this film, you won't regret it.
