5.0 out of 5 stars Not just the hockey song! July 29 2010
By Rick M. Pilotte TOP 1000 REVIEWER
Format:Audio CD
Great album, and cleverly they haven't put the hockey song first. The first song (The Consumer) is classic yet always reflective of our society, even though it came out in 1973. I remember people talking about it when it was new and it's still true and funny today. That's the thing about Stompin Tom's stuff compared to others. With contemporary artists; you can almost guess a year of a song by the style...but not with Stompin' Tom's stuff, it's sort of timeless folksy stuff.
Tom often sings about Canadian history so's to make you want to do a little resarch. ( this one has The Last Fatal Duel, and The Curse of the Marc Guylaine) This one even has a mystery song I'm still trying to figure out the answer to (Where would I be). A few slower more melancholy songs here, but every song is a quality Stompin' Tom offering within his usual range, and even has a silly song(Piggyback Race). There's no unwelcome breaks from his beaten path, like some of his other albums. And yes though the album's a little over half an hour it still ends all too soon. This is one of Stompin's Toms better albums to be sure, and you get the hockey song to boot.

5.0 out of 5 stars a review from my mom! Jun 13 2009
Format:Audio CD|Amazon Verified Purchase
I called my review this way because this was a gift to my mom, she is 89 years old, and I ask her if she could do a review, what would she say? she said that she is a big time fan of Stompin tom and that she just love every single song on this cd, as usual the singer got some humor and also he talks about stuff that Canadiens can relate too, she said in this case even an 89 years old lady and she laugh! She just thought that it was too short, a prove that she could have taken way more songs! She said that what most young people call country these days is not country as far as she is concern, and that Stompin' tom keep the old tradition going and that he does not selle out to become a big money maker, she loves him for that, he is what he is and he will not change. she said that anyone that want to listen to something really Canadien, this is the artist for you. she is super please with the cd.

4.0 out of 5 stars Canadian Humour Jan 9 2007
By Louis Cohn - Published on Amazon.com

Bought this for the "Hockey song" which is classic Canadian "hockey night in Canada" nostalgia. I grew up listening to Foster Hewitt doing the saturday night broadcasts from the gondola high above Maple Leaf Gardens. Rest of the CD was more fun that I had anticipated.

Bought this solely for "The Hockey Song". Other songs are not too bad, too.
