5.0 out of 5 stars A Horror Smorgasbord Mar 14 2010
By Whitney Young - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
"And Now the Nightmare Begins" has a little something for every horror enthusiast; from the dreadfully grotesque ("Ratwitch Cave" by Lawrence Barker) to the frighteningly psychotic (Christina Hoag's "My Mother's Knives") to the hauntingly chilly ("Ghost of Roses by Debra Young), this collection of stories seems designed to keep you up at night.

The quality of writing and depth of detail in "Ghost of Roses" paints a picture of a deeply haunted man carrying a guilt that manifests itself in alarming ways. The obsessive Mary Grace Nagy in "My Mother's Knives" is both deeply disturbed and sadly tragic at once. 'Ratwich Cave" is filled with disgusting horrors and repulsive details that stay with you long after you've finished reading.

This collection is a great read with many stories and poems to choose from, but the hardest choice will be whether or not it's safe to read alone.

5.0 out of 5 stars Like they Froze Your Spine Feb 1 2010
By Ken Douglas - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
Just one look at the cover of this book, at the grisly old witchy woman looking out that window and you know she's the kind of person you never want to meet, just the opposite of the stories in this anthology that just scream out to be told and retold around a campfire. That woman looks like she could deliver bad dreams with the blink of her evil eye, these stories will deliver a few nightmares themselves.

From the first story in the book (it's got rats in it) to the last (it's got roaches in it) you'll be held captive by the stuff nightmares are made of. These stories are short and to the spine-tingling point. Ramsey Clark, that old master horror crafter will take you to church, a church you're gonna wanna get out of. Lawrence Barker takes you into a cave, you're not gonna like it in there either. Rick McQuiston will take you into an abandoned factory, you're really gonna want out of there. And Jeani Rector will take you into a bus station with the Pontiac Man and you're not gonna like it in there either.

No, you're not gonna like the places the people in this book take you. A couple stories in and you're going to feel like someone ripped out your spine, stuck it in a meat locker at forty below than stuck it back in your back. Roaches and rats, zombies and bats, it doesn't get better then this, not if you're out looking for the nightmares are made of.

5.0 out of 5 stars A must read for every horror lover. April 16 2010
By Science Nerd - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
This is another masterpiece which includes the author of Another Menudo Sunday, Juan Manuel Perez. Mr. Perez touches the darkest part of our human soul in his collection of horror poems in And Now the Nightmare Begins: The Horror Zine. From the allure of the haunted in "Hotel Catarina," to the bloodthirsty of "The Arrival," Mr. Perez successfully paints the horrific images of the dark side that lurks in every 'normal' human. His collection, along with the other writers, soothes the campfire's spirit.
