This review is from: Andre Rieu: Christmas Around the World (DVD)

Andre Rieu, We Need More Of YOU!,

This review is from: Andre Rieu: Christmas Around the World (DVD)
I am a HUGE fan of Andre but I was disappointed with this DVD. He is not the focus as in others I have seen. The Japanese children's choir is sweet but the three sopranos that perform throughout are too slick and lack the fun and heart of Andre. The orchestra and Andre are what I bought the DVD for... and they are not the main characters in this one. It might appeal more to European tastes... I don't hate it but I'm waiting for his other Christmas one now and once it comes, I probably won't be popping this one in again.

Christmas Spirit,

This review is from: Andre Rieu: Christmas Around the World (DVD)
This DVD contains 23 joyful tracks and gives warmth of Christmas to the listener. It runs for 90 minutes with DD5.1 or DD2.0 sound choice in DVD5 format. From track 03 to 10 (lasts for 14 minutes) there is a guest choir Nagasaki Girls & Boys Choir. Most of the people could find this instalment into concert very nice and sweet, but to me I don't like children to sing for adults. I would have preferred those songs to be sung by Andre Rieu's beautiful soloists (Carla, Carmen and Susan). Of course they do appear in other tracks; Star of Bethlehem, The Angel, Ave Maria, Hallelujah, etc..."White Christmas" is beautifully played and you have never heard "Jingle Bells" in such a great variations. "Rudolph the Red-nosed Reindeer" has been sung by his clarinet player Manoe Konings and "Winter Wonderland" again sang by his musicians (Manoe Konings, Stephanie Detry and Lin Jong) It is a nice Christmas concert (from my point of view apart from those tracks of children choir). If you are looking a video music to buy for Christmas that would be wise choice. If you are Andre Rieu collector don't forget to look his latest and greatest DVDs; The Homecoming, The Flying Dutchman and Tuscany. Also let me remind you that there is a brand new release in Europe called Andre Rieu at the Schonbrunn Palace, Vienna. Tracks are: Star of Bethlehem; The Angel; Tulip Song; Dendenra Ryu; From Heaven High I Come To You/Tomorrow's The Day Children/Angels We Have; Heard On High; Ring Out Little Bell/O Come All Ye Faithful; Deck The Halls With Boughs Of Holly; Slumber My Darling; Silent Night, Holy Night; We Wish You A Merry Christmas; White Christmas; Jingle Bells; O Holy Night (Minuit Chretien/Cantique de Noel); Sah ein Knab ein Roslein stehen; Petersburger Schlittenfahrt; Rudolph the Red-nosed Reindeer; Winter Wonderland; Gesu Bambino; Sleigh Ride; Ave Maria; Sakura; Evening Prayer; Hallelujah. 29 of 32 people found the following review helpful

'Christmas around the World' has got to be one of the finest Christmas albums I have ever seen. Wonderful quality and a joy to watch. The rendition of Ave Maria sung by Carmen Monarca is possibly one of the best ever recorded. This remarkable singer takes this song to a new level. I highly recommend this DVD to anyone who enjoys Christmas music.
