Book Description

As a half-demon master of the dark arts, Eve Levine isn't what anyone would call "angelic." That's exactly why the Fates chose her for the job. She's their secret weapon against the forces of evil. However, after five years, Eve is tired of being the designated rebel of the angel corps, expected to break the rules, then being penalized for it. When the leaderless djinn stage an uprising, Eve sees the perfect chance to get herself fired. As she plunges deeper into the demon world, though, she realizes she's in danger of losing a lot more than her job.

4.0 out of 5 stars A Heavenly Delight, May 31 2010

This review is from: Angelic (Hardcover)
I love Kelley Armstrong's Women of the Otherworld novels, but I'm not a huge fan of special limited edition novels or books. They are usually books that you pay a good deal of money for and can't really carry around with you for fear of damaging the book.

Thankfully, I didn't have that problem with Angelic by Kelley Armstrong. It's short, just under one hundred pages, so it was an hours worth of glorious reading. I enjoyed it so much that I read it two times in a row.

In Angelic, Armstrong returns to having Eve Levine narrate her story. Tired of letting the Fates push her around, she sets about trying to get herself fired from her otherworldly job but in the end gets herself in a heap of trouble. Though she has good intentions, she proves that, if anything, she is far from angelic...

What I love about Armstrong's writing is its strength of voice. Each of her narrators sound different and no character is the same. Even better, the stories are engaging and speed by at a fast pace.

Angelic is no different. Though it's a short read, it feels like a whole novel. You've got all the emotional highs and lows of a full length read packed into a handful of pages. Angelic is a wonderful read from start to finish and it left me wanting more of Eve.

I've missed her as a narrator of the series and it was like I was visiting with an old friend. While I wish there had been more to the story, I will take what I can get.

And read it as many times as possible.

3.0 out of 5 stars Conflicted -Great Story... Bad Listen, May 14 2012
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Angelic (Audio CD)
I Really wish there was a 2.5 Star option because I don't dislike it but I'm not fond of it either - just ambivalent, because at one and the same time- it was both very good (the Story) and rather poor (the Voice Acting). I love Kelly Armstrong's works and considering the audio book was the only way I could get this story without paying an amount I could never afford for a limited edition, I'm glad I bought it. The Story was everything I have come to love and expect of a Kelly Armstrong.
However; the Narrator of this audio book version was really hard to listen to, which makes enjoying the story rather difficult. She made all the male characters (and the are quite a few of them) sound like Bullfrogs or Chain-smoking Old Women which frankly, considering one was a pre-established romantic lead in Eve's other adventures, was simply tragic. As a fan of the series it made me cringe - and when one of my friends who hadn't been exposed to the stories at all heard her start attempting to read as a sexy man, she simply burst out laughing and couldn't stop till I turned it off.
Overall I'd say "Buyer Beware". If you are a fan and worried about having your mental images shaken by bad voice work I recommend looking for a sample of Laural Merington's other recorded works (ones without sentimental value) and give her a trial run before committing to purchase this Audio Book

3.0 out of 5 stars I didn't expect 2 CDs!!, Feb 9 2011

When I ordered this item, being a long time fan of Kelley Armstrong, I was excited that the pricepoint was so low for an audiobook--if you do a little more research (which I did NOT before ordering), you will find that "Angelic" is a novella, and the audiobook is only 2 CDs long.

It's an interesting story about Eve, and it's cool to learn some more about her character after death... but I was expecting something longer, like a full novel.
