I first saw Angels Brigade(1979) as "Angels Revenge" on Mystery Science Theater 3000. This cheesy 1970's film is The Seven Samurai(1954) meets Charlie's Angels! Greydon Clark(Final Justice) co wrote the script and directs. This film is also known as Seven From Heaven. This film is bad and tacky, but not boring. Every awful 1970's cliche is in this film. There's disco music, gunplay, and "martial arts"! Hollywood veterans such as Jack Palance, Peter Lawford, Pat Buttram, Arthur Godfrey and Jim Backus are the "stars" of the film. The "seven angels" in the film are played by B movie starlets such as Jacqueline Cole, Susan Kiger, Robin Greer, Lieu Chinh, Noela Velasco, Sylvia Anderson, and more. The humor is a hit or miss affair. It's not funny seeing Jim Backus smash into a wall! It was funny seeing the blonde woman spook the bad guy with the binoculars. This film has a fair amount of cheesecake. The angels "get some sun" on the beach. The MST3K version deletes many scenes.
-Neville Brand plays a police officer
-The Latina angel tests out some mace
-There's a Brian De Palma style montage with disco music
-The teenage angel complains that she has nothing to do
-The angels are ambushed when they take a bath in the mountains
-Some of the action scenes are shortened
I think Helter Skelter(1976) and Angels Brigade(1979) shared some of the same sets and locations. Angels Brigade is packed with 1970's campy kitsch and racial stereotypes. There's a fat Hitler look-a-like! There's Jim Henson, Bill Katt and Mark Spitz look-a-likes. I like the scene where the blonde drug dealer asks in a Cheech Marin voice, "Where you been? Where'd you get this machine?" Angels Brigade is bad, but it's not the worst film made by human hands.
