Product Description

The use of animal familiars began long before the Middle Ages in Europe. It can be traced to ancient Egypt and beyond. To most people, a familiar is a witch's companion, a small animal that helps the witch perform magick, but you don't have to be a witch or believe in familiars to have one. A physical familiar in the guise of a pet may already be living in your home. Or you may have an astral-bodied familiar if you are intensely drawn to a particular creature that is impossible to have in the physical. There are advantages to befriending a familiar. They make excellent companions, even if they are astral creatures. If you work magick, the familiar can aid by augmenting your power. Familiars can warn you of danger, and they are good healers. Most books on animal magick are written from the viewpoint of the Native American but this book takes the reader into the field of animal familiars from the European pagan viewpoint. It gives practical meditations, rituals, and power chants for enticing, befriending, understanding, and using the magick of familiars.

Ingram

This book shows how to access the spiritual powers of familiars--real or imagined animals--for personal enrichment. Whether one collects glass animals, dreams about snakes, or "talks" with an animal already, ANIMAL MAGICK shows how to further develop this connection for startling magickal results.

1.0 out of 5 stars Get "Animal-Speak" instead, Jan 17 2004

Conway's research is horrid. She threw together a bunch of shaky information in her usual "Look! I'm a witch!" format and called it a book. Of course, that's par for the course with her. Get Ted Andrews' stuff instead.

1.0 out of 5 stars Innacurate Information, Jun 6 2004
This review is from: Animal Magick: The Art of Recognizing and Working with Familiars (Paperback)
This book could be so much better if it contained *accurate* information about all the animals mentioned! Conway needs to do adequate research before writing, and Llewellyn needs to do their editorial homework before publishing her books.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Book, For a Great Start, Nov 4 2003

This review is from: Animal Magick: The Art of Recognizing and Working with Familiars (Paperback)
My coven and I have been researching animal familiars, guides and totems and this book is a great quick reference for just that. It had a great explanation for the different types of familiars in the front, meditation ideas, and a very comprehensive number of different animals that you might find are your spirit guides. I have found many people including myself who are not too keen on certain types of critters and she covers those as well, with reassurance and advice. Rest assured it is a good book to add to your library.
