Cleanse your literary palate April 10 2001
By Michael L. Dennis - Published on
Format: Mass Market Paperback
I save these books as a sorbet between main courses--the series is great reading as a way to cleanse your palate between more serious or hard-hitting fantasy or science fiction.
Don't expect any lofty language, but DO expect a few laughs and a wonderful romp.
Skeeve aspires to be a magician--not to learn arcane sorcery or become all powerful, but to become a better thief. He considers his master a bit impractical in his use of magic...if you are not profiting from it, what good is it? After conjuring a green-scaled demon, the old magician keels over dead, leaving Skeeve to deal with the demon himself.
The demon called Aahz, however, is merely a traveler from another "dimen"sion, called Perv. Do not dare under any circumstances call Aahz a Pervert. The denizens of Perv prefer "Pervect"; those who mis-speak tend to lose their lives.
Skeeve is from a backward dimension called Klah (residents are called Klahds, read "clods") where technology is back at the medieval level. Aahz has been everywhere and readers will enjoy many inside jokes from our own pop culture.
Another great feature of the books is the quote that begins each chapter, usually expounding on one of life's great truths. One of my favorites is from chapter 21: "One must deal openly and fairly with one's forces if maximum effectiveness is to be achieved." -- D. Vader

I wish I could write a book as entertaining as this one! Jan. 1 1997
By A Customer - Published on
Format: Mass Market Paperback
Skeeve, a magician's apprentice. Aahz, a green scaly Prevect from the dimension of Perv. Gleep, Skeeve's pet dragon. Tananda, a green haired, shapely assassin. These are just a few of the characters you'll fall in love with just from reading this first book in the Myth series. Follow the adventures of Skeeve as he meets and becomes the apprentice of Aahz and accidently aquires Gleep at the bazaar on Deva. Be enthralled by following the characters from Skeeve's home dimension of Klah to the bazaar on Deva and back to rescue the world from the evil wizard, Isstvan. The story is enchanting, the dialog is hilarious, and the characters are, well, many dimensional. If I were to write a book, I hope it would be as entertaining as this one

A quick, easy and fun read June 18 2005
By Katherine M. Meadows - Published on
Format: Mass Market Paperback
This is my second time reading Another Fine Myth and it was just as good as the first time. I still laughed, but not quite as much. However, I did notice more of the humor this time around.

The Myth series is a breathe of fresh air in the fantasy genre, even if it is over 20 years old. Asprin writes witty dialogue with a cast of characters you can't help but feel a part of.

Skeeve is an apprentice magician and his master is murdered. Aahz is a magician from another dimension that has lost his powers. The two work together to find the man that hired the assassin and seek revenge. Along the way Murphy's Law seems to be the only constant. This is the first in a long line of fun and interesting adventures for the two. It's not necessary to read them in order, but this one will give you some background info. I highly recommend this series if you are looking for laughs and a good fantasy adventure.

The Beginning of a Beautiful Series Nov. 23 2003
By Madelyn Pryor - Published on
Format: Mass Market Paperback
Another Fine Myth is the beginning of Robert Asprin's Myth series, one of the best (and THE most hilarious) fantasy series of all time. This introduces us to the characters that make the series so wonderful. Some of the characters are
Skeeve: The apprentice to a washed out, burned out magician. When that magician is killed, Skeeve has to find a way to save his own life and find justice for his mentor.
Aahz: a Pervert, (oops make that Pervect), a demon rendered powerless by a practical joke gone awry.
Tanda: A beautiful, voluptuous green haired assassin with a firey temper and wicked sense of humor.
And Gleep: A loveable but dumb baby dragon.
This book is ideal not only for fans of fantasy but for humor fans as well. I picked it up and could not put it down. I also couldn't stop laughing! Don't just buy one, buy one for your friend! It's that good!

The Myth-Adventures of Aahz and Skeeve start here!
Yes, you read that correctly. The adventures of the infamous dimension-hopping duo, whose deeds have been immortalized by the great Robert Asprin, begins with this fine book.
THRILL! As the Demon Aahz loses his powers! MARVEL! As the Klahd Skeeve learns how to use magik! JEER! As the diabolical Isstvan plots against are heroes! DROOL! As the voluptuous Tanda gives are heroes a helping hand! LAUGH! As our heroes get screwed time and time again!
This is a good book, really.
