An easy read but yet a compelling story about the plight of the people in Sudan but also about how a man's life can be transformed by God.

This is an amazing true story of Sam Childers, whose life changed dramatically from a tough, fighting, drug-dealing biker to a preacher with a heart for the war-torn Sudan. His faith in God and unwavering desire to do whatever God wanted him to do become the most compelling force in his life. His heart breaks especially for the children of Sudan and Uganda who experienced such horror and terror at the hands of the Lord's Resistance Army. He goes in with his band of soldiers where others fear to go to rescue as many children as he can find and provides a home for them in the orphanage that he has built. He is not afraid to fight or do whatever he has to do to save the children.
Parts of the book are hard to read as Sam describes some of the terrible things done to people by the LRA but it is good for us in our protected lives to know what happens in other parts of our world. Even though most of us would not be willing to do what Sam does or maybe not even agree with his methods, his love and sincerity for God and the suffering people of Africa are very evident. This was a book that I did not stop thinking about for a long time after reading it.

I am 3/4 through. I will finish the book, but feel I have a firm enough grip on it to write a quick review.

This man's story is really interesting. The reason I am giving this book a 3/5 star rating is how it is written. The book is, in my opinion, a random assortment of thoughts / notes for Sam's life. The organization is confusing at best, as the book jumps around, chapter by chapter, to different points in his life. The writing itself is serviceable.

I truly believe Sam has done his story an injustice by writing this book himself. I believe a professional writer could turn his story, which is very interesting indeed, into a much better read.

I love this book, I couldn't put it down. The writing style is simple and engaging, as if Sam was telling you his story face to face. His testimony is filled with miracles. One cannot read this book and not be moved to action toward the children of Sudan. It is also hard to walk away and not reckon that there is a mighty God at work in a desperate part of the world.
