4.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful music but I missed the transcendence of previous generations, such as taverner April 14 2009
By Aquinas - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Audio CD
Having been listening to the music of John Taverner on Helios (under Christrophers), I was disappointed by the music of Weelkes. John Taverner's music aims for the celestial heights with a true emphasis on transcendence. I sensed that in Weelkes' music there was a move away from these dizzy heights - a more horizontal emhasis. Of course, this is my own impression: I wonder was it the context of Anglicanism finding its own voice?
