It'll Be Great... Once Their Label Stops Jerking Around..., Sep 27 2005
By A. Estes - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: Anxiety (Audio CD)
Today, September 27th, 2005, Smile Empty Soul's second album, "Anxiety" was to be released. After much aniticipation on my part, I was extremely annoyed to find that the record was nowhere to be found in stores! Apparently, their label, Lava/Atlantic decided to pull the plug on this release without giving anyone any logical reason. Ironic that their label is treating them so poor, as they are currently on tour with Cold, their label-mates.
To dispel rumors, the band has not broken up. They are still on tour. But the reason behind the label pulling the plug remains to be seen (copies of this album will be sold at upcoming shows, rumor has it). Which is unfortunate, as this album has a lot of promise behind it. Smile Empty Soul's debut album showed that the band was capable of much more, and after downloading the album's first single, "Don't Need You" off of ITunes, I was positive "Anxiety" would deliver on that promise. To go pick up this CD (which is always a 45 minute travel for me, does their label plan on reimbursing me for my VERY expensive gas money?!) and to simply have it not appear on the shelves is an absolute outrage.
I still can't think of any real reason why Lava would put a hold on this album. There is simply no logic to it. "Anxiety" promises to be one of the best rock albums of this year, and will surely propel the band even further into the spotlight -- if it's ever released. Currently, their website promises an early 2006 release. Hopefully this is true, because if the single is any indication, this is gonna be a special album.
As for Lava/Atlantic, you just gave us another reason to hate record labels and the music industry. You keep us from buying this album, but if we went on the internet to download it, you would sue us.
