Product Description

Album Description

The Presets are a Sydney-based electronic duo, consisting of Julian Hamilton and Kim Moyes. In September 2005 they released their debut album, Beams, to positive critical response. That same year Julian Hamilton and Kim Moyes also toured with The Dissociatives, which is co-fronted by Daniel Johns of Silverchair and Australian dance producer Paul Mac. Johns also played guitar on Presets single "Cookie". Hamilton and Moyes are also members of Sydney instrumental group Prop. 11 tracks.

5.0 out of 5 stars Essential for your next party..., Oct 6 2008
By Cosmocowgirl (Montreal, Quebec, Canada) - See all my reviews
These Sydney boys know how to get your butt shaking and your feet moving... You can play the whole album at your next party, not one skip-worthy song! You'll need to have strong floor boards, especially for My People and Talk Like That (although my personal favorites are Kicking and Screaming and Yippyo-Ay) ... one can't help but jump up and down.. their live shows are somehow even better, so check them out next time they're in town! Aeons provides a refreshing break from the heart-pounding beats, and allows Julian & Kim to show off their skills as studied classical composers. The Presets have toured with Cut Copy, Daft Punk, Hot Chip and many others.. if you enjoy any of these artists, then I encourage you to take a hard listen at the Presets! Get your party shoes on...

5.0 out of 5 stars Dark, Danceable and Totally Brilliant, Aug 20 2009

(TOP 500 REVIEWER)    (REAL NAME)
Phew! This is one HOT band! Imagine Depeche Mode and Underworld done in a starker, darker vein. Songwriting Electronica with rock solid beats and artful textures. "Future Pagan" they call it. The Presets are Aussie duo Julian Hamilton and Kim Moyes, a band so fresh and powerful they inspire ranting reviews. Hamilton has one of the BEST voices I've heard in decades. He uses it skillfully and artfully, showing a range of expression and nuance that is startling. His deep, beefy baritone is sexy as all hell and his lyrics are smart and full of unique surprises. The electronics are economical but rich in imagination and deft skill. Highly trained in classical form these guys put out some of the most exciting indie-electro imaginable! Hamilton and Moyes should be HUGE.

I don't know what they're doing down under, but damn, Australia's consistently churned out some of the most original and amazing cultural figures for decades.

"Apocalypso" has immediately shot from the new CD in my collection to join my list of tried and true classics. Every second of this CD is worth it. Having heard "If I Know You" first I was a bit taken aback by the dark glory of the first couple of tracks. Yet after the 2nd and 3rd listenings, I was HOOKED. "My People" is dark and muscular and so damn danceable it's justly become a club anthem almost everywhere. "This Boy's In Love" has a big, resonant sonic picture and is absolutely irresistible - complete aural addiction. Another huge hit for them. "Talk Like That" and "Yippiyo-Ay" are also total stand-outs; bright, prime candidates for extensive and vociferous play. "Together" is a monster, dark and intense, and really showcases the power of Hamilton's born-with-it voice. And just so you know they can do it and do it well, "Aeons" is a really sweet and wonderful instrumental on an album of really impressive songwriting. Killer, KILLER stuff!

Play along with Underworld's "Beacoup Fish" or "Oblivion with Bells", any recent Depeche Mode or Massive Attack's "Mezzanine".

Highly, HIGHLY recommended!
