Book Description

Imagine a hot tub party where a married couple tests the boundaries of fidelity. A model who finds herself unaccountably aroused as she poses for a watercolor artist. A pool of water on a desert road and two lovers who know how to make the most of it. This is Aqua Erotica, a sensuous tasting of desire's liquid, ecstatic other worlds.

Aqua Erotica is a siren's song, a book so unforgettably sexy that you will want to take it with you to the bath, the sauna, the night-lit pool.

What's amazing is that you can.

The first-ever waterproof book for adults. The most seductive collection of original literary erotica ever gathered under one cover.

Aqua Erotica is a book that quite literally goes places you never imagined books could go. Featuring today's boldest erotic voices:

Francesca Lia Block
Poppy Z. Brite
Louise Erdrich
Carol Queen
Marcy Sheiner
Cecilia Tan
Barry Yourgrau
and many others --

From the Publisher

From the editor's introduction:

"When I was first asked to do this anthology, it sounded like great fun -- reading erotic stories with a watery element, selecting the best to create a book that you could enjoy in the tub, at the beach -- while immersed in water yourself. And of course, I expected a veritable flood of stories to consider; water was so obviously a natural subject for erotica. Water is inherently sexy: it can be gentle, warm, delicious. I anticipated the incoming stories with nervous excitement.

I did receive many wonderful stories -- but their nature surprised me. I had expected the collection to be full of light stories, delightful little erotic tales -- cheerful, like a bubbling spring. There are certainly more than a few of those in this book. Mary Maxwell's "I Want" gives us a pool of water in the desert and two lovers who know how to enjoy it; Diane Kepler's "Hydrodynamica" is a tale of a student who is having a very difficult time studying her fluid dynamics; Kris Hawes gives us a teasing woman and her partner (who must choose between basketball and a steamy shower) in "Velvet Glove," and Thomas Roche's poor artist's model writhes delightfully on her couch in "Watercolor." These stories are rich, heartfelt, often complex, and I'm pleased to be able to share them with you; their playfulness is seductive and sexy. But not all the stories are so light-hearted.

There were dark currents in many of the stories I received. Love and lust, certainly -- but also pain and betrayal, deaths by drowning. Some of the stories were so painful that they moved me to tears as I read them. Bill Burkett's "Addiction" tells the story of a man trapped by his own desires, struggling to escape them; "Movements," by Michael Hemmingson, chronicles what may be the end, or new beginning, of a marriage, and the lengths to which a man will go to save it. A few stories pushed even further -- Simon Sheppard's "In Deep" is a story which explores the boundaries of consent, loss of control, and the desire for sexual oblivion; it terrified me even as it fascinated..."

5.0 out of 5 stars A wonderful collection, Sep 19 2009
This review is from: Aqua Erotica: 18 Stories for a Steamy Bath (Paperback)
First off, I am utterly baffled by the bad reviews Aqua Erotica has gotten from other Amazon readers. "Dull" and "not special" cropped up more than once. As did the complaints "writing was too small" and "weird waterproof pages." Hello? Were we reading the same book? You purchased this volume but find its unique waterproofness to be strange? And since when did the comment "small writing" constitute a sufficient review??? The fantastic waterproof pages are what makes this book so unique! The paper has a nice, smooth feeling and being a Water Proof Durabook it feels much heavier than usual (nicely heavy). The chosen font is neat and fresh. And rest assured, Aqua Erotica is definitely more than just a novelty item - there are some true treasures within!

When I picked this collection up, four stars were practically a given due to my confidence in its editrix - the marvelous Mary Anne Mohanraj, ([...]) who is not only an excellent erotica writer herself but has once again demonstrated great taste when it comes to selecting small masterpieces. Reading Mary Anne's own work has helped me to develop an eye for the difference between poorly written smut and erotic literature. That's not to say that erotic literature can't be deliciously smutty. But literary erotica is fuller, richer and not necessarily sex from start to finish. Rather than rush from climax to climax, a story can unfold, characters can develop, emotions can be provoked. My expectations for erotica have definitely risen and this book meets them all, thus earning it the fifth star.

"Nothing of Him That Doth Fade", a story to be about two gay men in a tumultuous relationship on the verge of collapse, is an amazing example of erotica that provokes strong emotions. It caught me completely off guard; before it, I would never have expected a work of 'smut' to bring me to near tears. Now that's one of the heavier items in this compilation. Then there's "New House," in which empty real estate property is given a surprising twist.

For lighter fare, Aqua Erotica includes tales like: "I Want," a quick, hot, desert escapade; "Hydrodynamica," a female physic student's time traveling fantasy; "Watercolour," a lesbian woman's obsessive desire for an artist she models for; "Movements," a provocative, orgiastic sequence about a marriage on the brink; and a silly, sad, little retelling of "The Little Mermaid."

5.0 out of 5 stars Interesting, May 12 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Aqua Erotica: 18 Stories for a Steamy Bath (Paperback)
I enjoyed this book as well as the next in the series and have given it many times as a gift, to male and female friends. I like all the metaphors and especially, the softer touch.

4.0 out of 5 stars tub-o-liscious, April 7 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Aqua Erotica: 18 Stories for a Steamy Bath (Paperback)
From the bath tub friendly design to arousing variety of stories inside, Aqua Erotica is on my don't miss list of contemporary erotica. "In Deep" by Simon Sheppard is simply unforgetable. Francesa Lia Block delivers again, too. If you've ever owned a bath tub or wanted to, this is the book for you.
