Book Description

Fine dining meets seasonality in this exquisite cookbook from the restaurant Gordon Ramsay called the best in Canada.

When chef Gordon Ramsay declares something the best, you listen. Also called "Whistler's culinary star" (Seattle Metropolitan) and "one of the top places to dine" (Frommer's Travel Guide 2008), Araxi's combination of local produce and sublime natural setting are surpassed by few. From its front door is a view of Whistler Village and the two highest skiable peaks in North America, a site of the 2010 Olympic Winter Games.

Highlighting Whistler's two distinct seasons -- summer and winter -- Araxi shows off the flavours of the Pacific Northwest with recipes such as Grilled Asparagus Salad with Sherry Vinaigrette and a Crispy Egg; Miso-Crusted Sablefish with Smoked Tuna Broth and Soba Noodles and Chocolate Caramel Pots de CrËme with Milk Chocolate-Almond Biscotti. A harvest menu features dishes using only ingredients grown or raised within 100 miles of the restaurant.

4.0 out of 5 stars Secrets from a five star restaturant, May 30 2010
This review is from: Araxi: Seasonal Recipes from the Celebrated Whistler Restaurant (Hardcover)
The delivery from Amazon is really fast. Its very rare a five star restaurant will share their recipes by creating their own recipe book which is excellent. I wish I can go to Whistler, BC and visit this restaurant. The book offers a unique recipes and what makes me interested in this book is, it offers lots of seafood recipes for different seasons. Of course, recipes are Chefs selected so expect some hard to find recipe's before you able to cook one special dish.

5.0 out of 5 stars Pure Inspiration for Curious and Imaginative Cooks, Nov 26 2010

I had to write this review just to counteract the terrible review from the other reader here.

This book is a joy to own and has some great recipes and flavor combinations. Like most high end cookbooks, it serves as an inspiration for the home cook, suggesting ways to pair ingredients, plate ideas etc. James Walt's passion for local, seasonal and sustainable ingredients shines through as much as would say Vittorio Paley's

You have to remember that buying this book, or Gordon Ramsey's Three Star Chef, Heston Blumenthal's Fat Duck Cookbook or Thierry Marx's Planet Marx - many of the recipes can be pretty much unreplicable at home except for the super able cook with huge amounts of time and resources. These books are really meant to serve as awesome insights into some of the concepts and thinking they have. The books provide inspiration for elements and ideas that can be applied to your own cooking.

If you are a foodie, committed home cook or interested in high end creativity, then get this book.
