Get a Small Sampling of a Legendary Band, Mar 8 2009

Somewhere around 1997 a friend of mine dragged me to a show in San Francisco. The band had some goofy name--"Ozric Tentacles"?? What does that mean?
Suffice it to say, the show was amazing. Life-altering. It was like an odyssey through outer space. Ozric makes the type of music that fantasy artists probably paint to--it just pushes the outer limits of reality as we know it. It is not doper music, but it is psychedelic as I define that term, and that is a very good thing.
I bought a poster at that show, which is the same image as on the cover of Arborescence. I later put the poster up in my young daughter's room where it was on display for a few years until it was in tatters. She cried and cried when I took it down and tossed it. As a consolation I bought her this CD. She now listens to it at night as she is falling asleep. She reports that "it is like a party in outer space." Or, under the ocean, or inside an atom, wherever.
The sad thing is that the Ozric CDs do not do justice to their live shows which are a spectacular combination of sound, lights, and ambience. I enthusiastically bought about a dozen CDs after I saw them, hoping to replicate the experience, and none capture the true spirit of this amazing band. But, the discs are a memento, and they bring back the dream-like memories. Arborescence is probably as good a disc to start with as any. After you get this, however, try to find a show and go see these guys in concert. They will amaze you.
