Pretty good book...,
This review is from: Architectural Drawing Course: Tools and Techniques for 2D and 3D Representation (Paperback)
This book is great for anybody starting out from dead scratch. The activities in it provide insight into a lot of design and different presentations of architectural drawings. It also has a chapter on how to make your own portfolio. It's a good starter book. However, if you're looking for an all inclusive book on how to draw perspectives or how to generate ideas, this might nor be the book for it. Like it says in the title, " Architectural Drawing Course". It covers everything and I mean EVERYTHING. If you're looking for something specific, this won't do it. The book is well organized, but the book is so packed with content, most subjects only span about 2 to 3 pages worth with pictures and diagrams. This book is mainly to inform the reader of what they are getting into if they choose this career path. I was an enthusiast before and this book helped me get a good start on architecture. For a starter like me, this book was perfect. You're basically starting a portfolio as you go along and not even know it. I'd recommend this book to others, but not to people who have been doing architecture for years.

Good for Beginners -- Too Basic for Professionals,
By Simon (Canada) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Architectural Drawing Course: Tools and Techniques for 2D and 3D Representation (Paperback)
A nicely laid out book for students and/or those lacking basic presentation AND design skills. The book is arranged like a first year design studio with lots of inspirational examples by starchitects like Siza, Hejduk, TWBS, etc, and exercises to explore and build DESIGN skills through drawing and modelling. There is a real emphasis on how drawing and modelling are DESIGN tools, and not merely final presentation techniques. However, I returned it because it didn't offer enough info on advanced techniques for enhancing elevation CONSTRUCTION drawings. In fact, the entire book doesn't really touch on construction drawing, just conceptual and design presentation drawing and modelling techniques. It could be called, "Drawing and Modelling Techniques for Design". I'm getting more out of Doyle's "Color Drawing". Though it focuses more on color perspective rendering techniques than orthographic presentation, some tips can be adapted for the latter.

By Michael C. Abrams - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: Architectural Drawing Course: Tools and Techniques for 2D and 3D Representation (Paperback)
"Architectural Drawing Course" is a very inforamtive book and easy to follow. Filled with great images, exercises and technical tips. I highly recommended to all freshmen and upper-class students who want to practice their drawing and modeling skills, or want to get better at hand-drafting and sketching.

The missing text book for Architectural Studio,

Many architectural studio classes are taught without a specific textbook (not counting the reading of architectural classics). This could be that missing textbook. It is a broad yet specific syllabus of all things studio. While seeming a bit advanced for high school time limits, it certainly is worthy of college and graduate school courses.

Excellent book... covers all aspects of the architectural profession. All design projects will enhance your creative tools and give you a broad overview of the profession. Includes suggested websites and books. For me, well worth the o\purchase price.
