The core cast of the classic British sitcom Are You Being Served? returns to run a country hotel in Grace & Favour (known in the U.S. as Are You Being Served? Again!). John Inman (as the deliciously fey Mr. Humphries), Mollie Sugden (imperious Mrs. Slocombe), Frank Thornton (snobbish Captain Peacock), Wendy Richard (cheerfully tart Miss Brahms), and Nicholas Smith (jug-eared Mr. Rumbold) transplant their Department-store banter to a small village manor house, where they grapple with such problems as a stolen gypsy cart, American tourists, a mummified cat, and the bubbly attentions of farmgirl Mavis (Fleur Bennett), who shares a warm bed with a dismayed Mr. Humphries. Some plot elements are labored (far, far too much is made of this bed-sharing) while others get tossed aside before they go anywhere (Mrs. Slocombe's husband, who left her 40 years before, appears for a single underdeveloped episode), and a few too many jokes are recycled from the previous series (including a lot of sexual double-entendres that don't quite fly when the cast is this long in the tooth). Nonetheless, the comic ensemble maintains their easy, enjoyable rapport, which is no small accomplishment. This series is unlikely to entice the uninitiated into the fold, but fans of Are You Being Served? will take to it like comfort food. --Bret Fetzer

This was the follow-up to ARE YOU BEING SERVED. Unfortunately, the BBC only gave it 2 seasons, and decided it wasn't getting the ratings they wanted. I think it is hilarious, a very funny, overlooked series that was almost as funny as the original show. For anyone who loves the original ARE YOU BEING SERVED, this is a must. If you aren't familiar with that show, this is still a VERY funny, light hearted comedy series, definately worth viewing many times.

We both really enjoy this series and a few other British Series. Before I wanted to buy these though, I just wanted to make sure that there was Closed Captioning available as it is easier to understand some of these series if there is, especially for the hard of hearing. I phoned amazon.ca this morning to find out and the person I talked to said he has both the "Are You Being Served and Are you Being Served Again!" series and he said that these DO HAVE CC available, so the hard of hearing need not worry! The same goes for the "Waiting For God" series which also has CC available.

This DVD movie was played on TV weekly episodes in Toronto, Canada a few years ago. I didn't see all the episodes, but I saw most. Its totally different than ARe y ou Being Served. The characters are mostly the same except for Fleur and her father played by Billy Burden, who I thought was very funny. The chracters from the show are living in a retirement farm with money invested by Young Mr. Grace. They get into trouble in various ways and its very funny. Its too bad the show didn't last longer. I might have bought this DVD but it says in description it has no sub titles, which I guess also means it has no close-captioning or hard of hearing text on the screen. Most DVD movies have subtitles now, so I just want to confirm that it doesn;t. Can anyone please tell me. I'll check back here. Thank you so much.

Wonderful follow up to Are You Being Served?
Wonderful sequel that was cut short in it's prime. It has been shown here in the states on PBS once or twice, but not with as heavy rotation as the original series. Read more
