5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing!!!!! July 16 2004
Format:Audio CD
Before this CD, my favorite Deftones album was White Pony. I had all their CD's except Around the Fur. One day I saw it in a store and I had to buy it. I thought to myself,"It can't be better than White Pony." I WAS WRONG!!! This is ART!
1.My Own Summer(shove it) 10/10 Aggressive, Yet the lyrics still remain poetic.
2.Lhabia 10/10 My second favorite. The chorus is so awesome!
3.Mascara 9/10 Great, but not perfect. It seems to drag at times.
4.Around the Fur 10/10 Love this song. Not my favorite, but it rocks.
5.Rickets 8/10 Good song, I just don't like the verses.
6.Be Quiet and Drive(far away) 9/10 It's good, but not what everybody says. Fun Fact: Listen to this and then Chevelle's Send the Pain Below. Chevelle must be Deftones fans, huh?
7.Lotion 10/10 Favorite song on the album. One of the best songs EVER. I MEAN THAT.
8.Dai the Flu 10/10 Great verses. Great chorus. Great song.
9.Headup 9/10 Good, but unusual for Deftones. Rap verses and a weird chorus? Not bad, weird though.
10.MX 10/10 Cool song. Best chorus in a while.
Hidden Track 7/10 This is a good song, but you expect a little better from Deftones.
Overall 10/10 Favorite Deftones album and one of my favorite albums of all time.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Best June 6 2004
By K. Mair
Format:Audio CD
I hate it when people compare Deftones to Korn, Limp Bizkit, or any other nu-metal band out there. In fact, I hate the fact that people label music and the labels they give can come across as 'cool' or 'uncool' at any given time. The truth is, Deftones do their own thing. They do what they want, and don't compromise for anyone- which is what makes this cd so awesome. It's what makes the band themselves awesome. I've come across many people who love the Deftones, many who hate them, and many who think they're 'alright'. I guess you have to make your own mind up, but for me, the Deftones rule.
If you love heavy yet melodic rock music which is aggressive and violent but at the same time ethereal and soothing, then this is for you. Hell, if you like this sort of music, you should own this album already! Classic stuff. My fav song on here is Be Quiet and Drive, and yes, I know that's a cliche, but words can't actually do justice to how good this song is. My Own Summer also kicks serious ass- it was the first song I heard of them, and I haven't looked back. All the songs on here will rock you. Even Damone, which is hidden right at the end of MX, is worth fastforwarding to (and that is saying something given that you have to hold down the button for at least 2-3 minutes solid!)
All I can say is, you can find yourself in three categories of emotion towards Deftones: Love, Hate or Tolerance- but if you know what is good for you, you will buy this album NOW and love it for the duration of your rock loving life!

5.0 out of 5 stars Classic Deftones from '97 Jan. 27 2004
By Eric
Format:Audio CD
Around The Fur Is A Masterpiece. Many consider it nu-metal. But really, what in the hell is nu-metal. Still, the Deftones are continually crowned as the knigs of nu-metal alongside Korn and even Incubus. Anyway, the Deftones broke away from the music created through their debut album Adrenaline and did something brand new. The result is amazing, and is heralded as one of the best metal albums of the 90's. Radio favorites like My Own Summer (Shove It) and Be Quiet Drive (Far Away) mix with headbanging fan favorites like Lhabia, Lotion, and Headup. The first two songs are unrelenting metal in your face, and then the third song Mascara sets in. A ballad-esque tune about a chick gives the listener a chance to catch his or her breath. Then the title track somes forth. Unforgettable intro with a mysterious chorus. Rickets follows with more headbanging for sure. Then they slow it down with Be Quiet And Drive. Enter Lotion. Old School deftones right there, a great chorus. Dai The Flu succeeds it and brings a slightly slower song, and a fan favoite. Headup is right after that and it features Max Cavalera of Sepultra (now Soulfly) and has a kick ass ending. Mx closes the album and features Annalynn Cunningham on backing vocals (that's Abe the drummer's wife). Wait until 19:32 of Mx and you can even hear Chino taking a hit from his bong

A Classic! If you like KoRn, Slipknot, old Limp Bizkit, Linkin Park, Soulfly, you will love Deftones. This is great album because it demonstrates Deftone's potential and skills! From the beautiful melodies of Chino singing and yelling (I still cant figure out WTF is he saying sometimes - but it sounds good) to the heavy heavy riffs from the guitars - this album kicks major ass. MY OWN SUMMER is a great aggressive track, and one of my personal favorite songs. The entire album is great and is a variety of slow to hardcore moshing songs. The blend of guitar tones and special effects is awesome and very original. This is not your typical - I WANT TO KICK EVERYONES ASS album, its a collection of energetic songs mixed with emotional flowing songs. How the DEFTONES put their tracks together is amazing - they combine soft melodies and beautiful singing with hard beats the next moment that makes you want to bang your head - few bands can produce songs like that. Definately AROUND THE FUR should be on the top of your list to buy.
