5.0 out of 5 stars Tout simplement magique June 28 2012
Il est rare de voir un film sans violence, mais celui-ci en est un. Chaque image du film à l'air d'être peinturé à la main. La fin est un peu trop rapide, mais malgré ce petit défaut, je ne peux donné que 5/5

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful Aug. 15 2012

This movie is a fantastic new addition to the Studio Ghibli library. Without spoiling much, the story revolves around a family of tiny little people who live beneath the floor boards of a house that rely on borrowing supplies from the big people that live above them. When one of the little people is spotted it makes for a world of trouble and a fantastical adventure. Perfect for all ages, Arrietty captures the wonder and spectacle of exploring a whole new world, facing up to the consequences of one's actions, and the power of love and friendship all in ways that aren't obtuse or awkward for the viewer. Masterfully handled themes, well rounded characters, and imaginative music all bring this small world to life. I absolutely love this film and if you're a fan of Studio Ghibli I'm sure you will too.

4.0 out of 5 stars Based on The Borrowers book Jan. 6 2013

It's probably a bit quieter in pace than many Americans/Canadians will be used to. But my 3-year-old loves it, so maybe that's not an issue. It is missing some of the usual modern Ghibli whimsy, though. The boy is waiting for a heart operation and is coming from a broken home to stay with his Grandma, where he discovers the small people his mother used to speak of. While modern, it's a lot less innocent. There is fun to be had; just not the near constant effervescence of Ponyo, for example. After all, the boy and Arietty are both facing their mortality and deciding how to feel about it.
