3.0 out of 5 stars Assessment of this product, Sep 29 2007

Senuf Areti (Alberta, Canada) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Art Of Calligraphy (Paperback)
Granted this is not a high-priced item; nevertheless, I was disappointed with some of the content. The book does indeed have 32 pages. But those pages are about 3" x 2 1/2". It contains some interesting background and explanations of calligraphy styles, but no examples or suggestions for practice. I was expecting something to use as a visual guide. The practice sheets are just blank white paper folded up into six squares. Five smallish sheets. No printed lines to guide the size/shape of the letters. I have similar quality paper in my photocopier. Also, the inkwell is TINY. A thimble could probably hold all the ink. The online image gave me the impression it was larger. I doubt I could write a single page without running out of ink. The pen stem is barely 3 1/2" long - sized for a child's hand. The nibs are steel; the images (including on the box) show brass nibs. I'd recommend this as a starter gift (with a few independently purchased accessories like lined paper) for a pre-teen to play with. I'll be giving this to my 12-year-old niece. Me? I'll go spend more money for a better quality/sized kit.

4.0 out of 5 stars Fun little kit, Sep 19 2005
By Johanna Gates Lisle "Mom & Graduate Student" - Published on Amazon.com

If you are looking for a true calligraphy kit with instructions look elsewhere.

If you want to experiment and play with a pen that you have to dip into ink, then get this kit. I'm very happy with mine because those were my expectations. I wanted to play with the pen style without spending a bunch of money.

1.0 out of 5 stars Can't write "thick & thin" with this!, Jan 9 2003
By M. Chan - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: The Art Of Calligraphy (Paperback)
It didn't come with the right calligraphy points -- One of my co-worker who is an artist took a look and she say there's no way you can write "thick and thin" with the points it came with. So much for spending [money] for a bottle of ink.

5.0 out of 5 stars Inkwell is good for travelling, May 9 2010

I already had one kit and loved the short stature of the stylus. I bought a 2nd to have two small, secure travel inkwells for different colored inks.
