This smart, fast-paced rollercoaster of a charmer will interest young and old alike as we see Christmas Eve from the perspective of Santa's youngest son, physically clumsy but with the biggest heart this side of Mrs. Santa, as he tries to right a clerical wrong and deliver a present to a forgotten but faithful little girl.
With a fantastic and classically-trained British cast including Hugh Laurie, Jim Broadbent, Imelda Staunton and James McAvoy, you *believe*. There's a jolt of US paranoia, but fortunately, reality is quickly explained away. Most beautiful moment for me was the first meeting with the reindeer, and although disappointed that they ignored the real North Pole as being in Canada, they showcased a Canadian landmark in a very inventive way.
I'll definitely be seeking out more work by this director.

Santa has scored another perfect Christmas Eve and is back at the North Pole to rest. But wait! A toy has been overlooked and not delivered! Who will save the day? Can Arthur, Santa's bumbling son, do it?

I loved everything about this movie. The animation is bright and beautiful, the script is witty, the pacing is quick, and it all ends happily. Children will love seeing Santa, the reindeer, and sleigh (even though he usually drives a solar-powered spacecraft aided by a NASA-like control room manned by elves) and adults will laugh nonstop at the very funny dialogue that combines tradition values with modern technology. Turn on the subtitles to catch them all.

The British cast headed by James McAvoy, Bill Nighy, Hugh Laurie, and Jim Broadbent is outstanding and I was left with a big smile on my face. Recommended!

This is a movie about a family. To be precise, this is a movie about "special" family, Claus clan, but Clauses live very much the same as any other regular/average family in the world. The family of Clauses consists of: mom Margaret (who runs everything), dad Malcolm (who is a bit out of shape regarding his family business and who just cannot imagine being retired, "Who would I be?), older son Steve (super high tech mission control mastermind, who hopes replacing his father Malcolm and becoming Santa Claus after this Christmas' gifts delivery), younger son Arthur ("what a puzzle" for his father, a little bit awkward, clumsy young lad, but who really lives and breathes Christmas) and grandfather (who doesn't like this new highly computerized way of delivering presents and just itches to show his son Malcolm, grandson Steve and everybody else how the things are supposed to be done on Christmas night).

We also have a hundreds (thousands?) of elves working for this family of Clauses. They are working as "soldiers" i.e. deliverers of the gifts to the children of the world (in a rapid, secret agent style, they have about 14 - 18 seconds per household to pass all the obstacles: noisy toys, dogs, parrots, parents who are not sleeping yet etc. and place gifts under the tree) and also as present wrappers and co-ordinators in a control centre (making sure delivery operation runs smoothly), etc.
The story told in the movie is basically about Steve's mission failing to deliver one present (a pink bicycle for a little girl Gwen Hines, who lives in Cornwall, England) and Grand Santa's and Arthur's wild ride in the old sleigh (with a stowaway elf) across the continents, oceans, globe (yes, of course, they do not ask for directions!
