Product Description

Artist Robert Amos gives readers a fascinating insider's tour of studios on Vancouver Island and the Gulf Islands where some of Canada's best-known artists create works.

Spanning more than 15 years of interviews and photographs, Amos has created panoramic collages of these artists' creative spaces, and even more revealing images with his words. Not merely biography, Amos includes examples of completed works, and the insight that only another artist, and talented arts writer, can.

Artists in Their Studios is both a stunning compilation of our Canadian artistic heritage, and proof that art work in progress is art in itself.

2.0 out of 5 stars BE CAREFEL, May 16 2008
By Will Shakespeare "Art Appreciator" - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: Artists in their Studios: Where Art is Born (Hardcover)
I didn't understand how distracting and disappointing the photo collages would be until I received this book. Instead of straight-on or wide lend photos of the studios, the collages fracture the images just enough to REALLY bug the eye. I bought this book not because I like the products of most of the artists, they are conservative for the most part. I bought it so I could look at the studios in detail which I find inspiring, no matter what I feel about the product. The division of the photos and added slops of paint by Amos ruin this for me. The photos are not as disjointed as ones by David Hockney for example but they are not necessary, unless Mr. Amos just had to put his mark on them.

inspiring insight into the artists work space or really the engine room they take comfort in, all different, various degrees of decore and practicality, food for the souls of those that aspire.
