Not so much the concept but the after sales service leaves much to be desired. The fan drum in my unit disintegrated after 2 years and when I asked for a replacement part, was told by their responsible for service that no parts are carried. They offered a refurbished unit, but when I asked how units were refurbished if they had no replacement parts, the answer left me more perplexed. The refurbished unit came without the UV lamps or the heap filter which made it clearly un-economical for me when I could have gotten a totally brand new unit for 50.00 more. This may be the perils for having products assembled elsewhere as you are left to fend for yourself when needing after sales service or replacement parts.

Excellent unit, but don't buy it here on Amazon folks...They are ripping you off. On sale at COSTCO for half the price, yes you heard me half the price....Don't be fooled here...

I've had this unit less than 6 months. When I first got the unit, I followed the [very vague] manual and the instructions of my sister and mother who both have the same unit. It ran on high for a few days which seemed excessive so we turned it off and turned it back on which made it run quietly and normally. Since day 1, when set on 'auto' as instructed, the unit would switch into high (indicating it was due to gas or dust), however it would *NEVER* switch back to normal/low mode like it's supposed to. DAYS would go by and we would manually change it back by turning it off and back on. IF infact it was picking up high gas or dust, it should (in theory) switch back into high, however it never would, leaving me to believe the unit was defective. When the company was contacted they were less than accommodating and told me the unit needed to "get used" to my air for longer (apparently 3 months wasn't long enough) so I should leave it on manual and not automatic, which is exactly what I did. I did notice in the past month or so, that everything had alot more dust on it so I cleaned the filter and put it back (since you can wash the pre-filter and the rest only needs to be replaced manually). Well, even after cleaning the dust is excessive and when I looked at the unit it said I needed to 'check the filter'.
Obviously there is a serious quality issue with this unit if it's not even 6 months old, and it can't go on the setting it's designed to because it can't 'get used' to a houses air. We live in an 800sq/ft house and just had our vents professionally cleaned less than a year ago so there is absolutely no way this unit should not be able to keep up with filtering the air!

I've only had this a short while and the instructions are very clear. I blew some smoke at it and it switched to red (high) immediately. there was NO smoke smell at the exiting air. It accurately switches up or down depending on the air condition. The remote control is an added bonus ~ it works great!!!
