The style of the Associated Press is the gold standard for news writing. With The AP Stylebook in hand, you can learn how to write and edit with the clarity and professionalism for which they are famous. Fully revised and updated, this new edition contains more than 3,000 A to Z entries-including more than 200 new ones-detailing the AP's rules on grammar, spelling, punctuation, capitalization, abbreviation, and word and numeral usage. You'll find answers to such wide-ranging questions as:   ·        When should the names of government bodies be spelled out and when should they be abbreviated? ·        What are the general definitions of the major religious movements? ·        Which companies do the big media conglomerates own? ·        Who are all the members of the British Commonwealth? ·        How should box scores for baseball games be filed? ·        What constitutes "fair use"? ·        What exactly does the Freedom of Information Act cover?   With invaluable additional sections on the unique guidelines for business and sports reporting and on how you can guard against libel and copyright infringement, The AP Stylebook is the one reference that all writers, editors, and students cannot afford to be without.

5.0 out of 5 stars As advertised. Aug. 21 2011
By zaydia - Published on Amazon.com

The AP Stylebook 2011. It is what it is. Great, useful book when working with any kind of writing. Has the "approved" abbreviations and spellings of many confusing or disputed words. Helps me be consistent with the rest of my organization.

5.0 out of 5 stars Another year, another style guide Jan. 3 2012
By Sid - Published on Amazon.com

I buy one every year just for reference. It's handy and generally organized.
Buy the spiral bound version if you want to keep it open to one page/section. The binding on this one is too stiff.

5.0 out of 5 stars Writing With Style Oct. 30 2011
By prettylady - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
Prior to purchasing The Associated Press Stylebook and Briefing on Media Law 2011, I wondered how the book would benefit my writing career. Since receiving the book I have come to understand the importance of consistency in writing. Capitalization, punctuation, numbers all need to be consistent throughout an organization. The Associated Press Stylebook is designed to show structure for a journalist.

5.0 out of 5 stars AP Stylebook -- Better Than Ever. Nov. 3 2011
By James Barhydt - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
I used an older version of the stylebook when I was a public relations and media specialist with a major corporation, Now I am writing a book, and find the new version extremely helpful. It's too bad a couple of area TV news and spots reporters don't use it too. Pleased to see that Amazon has it listed. And why not?

I am a Transcriptionist and did not know that this book existed. I have learned so much and realized I had been doing some things wrong, but in time, I hope to improve my typing skills for my clientele.
